Job Description : OverviewThe Accounting Assistant I (Bilingual Spanish/English) is a customer focused position providing outstanding customer service to Tigard’s utility customers. The majority of your day is spent assisting customers with starting and stopping water service, accepting payments, helping customers in understanding and verifying charges on their utility bill, setting up payment plans, completing bill adjustments, and issuing service orders when needed.The ideal candidate will have a strong customer service background and who enjoys working with the public. An upbeat attitude and sense of humor are greatly appreciated and welcome.The position requires a good aptitude for math and ability to adhere to policies and procedures. Working as a part of a team is important as well as the ability to think and work independently when necessary. We strongly encourage those wanting to work with and serve diverse populations to apply.Please review the Accounting Assistant I classification for additional details about this job.Examples of DutiesReceives and processes customer payments, maintains and balance cash drawer.Answers incoming city-wide telephone calls, responding to general questions or transferring them to the appropriate department.Assists customers via telephone, email, or in person in opening new accounts, closing existing accounts, new service investigations; records address changes; makes payment arrangements with customers.Assists customers with account questions or complaints regarding their billing and collection activities.Performs a variety of routine office duties, such as posting to billing, collections, processing bank deposits, daily cash reports, and assists other employees as required.Minimum QualificationsAny combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: *Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade; ANDSix (6) months of experience in processing basic accounting transactions, performing general office support work, or providing customer service.Preference will be given to candidates with p*rior billing and/or accounting experience.*Supplemental InformationUnion Representation: This position is represented by the SEIU labor union.Schedule: 4-10’s (Monday – Thursday) 7:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m. This position requires employees to work onsite and remote work is not available.Additional pay: 3% Bilingual pay. The starting pay assignment, based on an analysis of the successful candidate’s related experience and education in accordance with the City’s pay equity policy and the Oregon Equal Pay Act, would be no higher than $21.80 per hour.
