CONTINUING PART‑TIME CLERK
Rate of Pay: $19.29 / per hour (2022 Wage Scale)
Applications are being accepted to fill one immediate vacancy and to establish an
Employment Eligibility List that will be used to fill any additional vacancies within the next 12 months.
Continuing part-time employees generally work
twenty (20) hours per week (4 hours per day).
JOB DESCRIPTION
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
This is part-time clerical work of limited complexity including the skilled operation of a personal computer and other general office equipment.
Although keyboarding is an essential phase of the work, an employee in this class normally performs a wide variety of other clerical tasks which may consume a major portion of the working time. Specific instructions are given at the beginning of work and on subsequent new assignments. However, after an employee becomes familiar with particular procedures, work is normally performed independently on regular assignments. Assignments involving more varied tasks or tasks of greater consequence or complexity are normally given closer supervision than those more repetitive in nature. Duties may involve frequent public contact in person and by telephone. Individual may be assigned to work in any department in the Township
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Note: These examples are intended merely as illustrations of the various types of work performed in positions allocated to this class, and do not include all of the duties that may be assigned to this position.)
Creates letters, reports, forms, tabulations, articles and other materials from rough draft or instructions.
May post permits, receipts, fees, and other items.
Answers telephone and personal inquiries, routes visitors and calls, and secures and relays information.
Makes routine compilations of data and creates departmental reports. Sorts and routes incoming correspondence, files correspondence and other materials; removes materials from files upon request and keeps records of material removed.
Collects and distributes mail and materials.
Fills orders for supplies and makes minor purchases of supplies as directed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or its equivalent.
Skill in the operation of a personal computer, calculator, and other standard office equipment.
Experience in an office setting preferred.
Ability to make arithmetic computations and tabulations with speed and accuracy.
Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the general public and to work harmoniously with other employees.

March 23, 2022: Selection Questionnaires Emailed Out To Candidates
Candidates selected to move on in the hiring process will be emailed a selection questionnaire no later than 6:00 p.m. on March 23, 2022.
The completed questionnaire can be returned by mail, in person or via the drop box and must be received in Human Resources prior to 4:30 p.m. on March 31, 2022.
Faxed or emailed questionnaires will not be accepted.
Applicants who do not receive a questionnaire will receive email notification they are no longer being considered.
Applicants who do not receive communication on the status of their employment application as outlined above need to contact Canton Township Human Resources at 734-394-5254 to verify the status of their application.
April 1, 2022: Employment Applications and Selection Questionnaires Screened
Applications and questionnaires will be screened for qualified candidates.
The following criteria will be considered when selecting qualified candidates for the assessment tests:
Questionnaire and application prepared representing the quality of desired professional work (spelling, grammar, and presentation are essential).
Previous verifiable work experience in office setting preferred.
Based on the number of applications received, additional screening criteria may be added to assist in the selection process.
Applicants who are selected to advance to the Word/Excel and Typing Assessments will receive email communication by 6:00 p.m. on April 1st.
Applicants who are not selected to advance in the selection process will also be notified by 6:00pm on April 1st.
Applicants that do not receive notification of the status of their application by 6:00pm on April 1st need to contact Human Resources at 734-394-5254 to verify the status of their application. .
April 5th and April 6th – Word, Excel and Typing Assessment Tests
Candidates who successfully complete the selection questionnaire and who are selected to advance to the next step in the hiring process will be scheduled to take the Word, Excel and Typing Assessments.
A minimum score of 70% on the Word and Excel Assessments are required to move onto the written test.
Applicants who successfully complete the Word, Excel and Typing Assessments will be scheduled to take the written exam.
Applicants that do not receive email communication on the status of their Assessment testing schedule by 6:00 p.m., on April 1st need to contact Canton Township Human Resources at 734-394-5254 to verify the status of their application.
April 14th – General Competency Written Examination
Applicants selected to take the written test will be notified via email by 6:00 p.m., April 6, 2022.
Applicants who are not selected to advance to the written test will receive email notification they are no longer being considered by 6:00 p.m., on April 6, 2022.
Applicants who do not receive email communication on the status of their application/questionnaire by 6:00 p.m., April 6, 2022 need to contact Canton Township Human Resources at 734-394-5254 to verify the status of their application.
April 28th and April 29th – Oral Boards
Oral Interviews will be scheduled. Candidates who successfully passed the Computerized Assessment Tests and the written test will be notified of the oral board schedule by 6:00 p.m., April 21, 2022.
Applicants who are not scheduled for the oral interview will receive email notification they are no longer being considered by 6:00 p.m., April 21, 2022.
Applicants who do not receive email communication on the status of their Assessment Test by this time need to contact Canton Township Human Resources at 734-394-5254 to verify the status of their application.
All candidates will be notified via e-mail of disposition of the employment application.
All offers of employment are contingent on the results of reference checks, thorough background investigation, working history verification, pre-employment physical examination, pre-employment drug screen (safety sensitive positions only), social media check and satisfactory completion of a six-month probationary period.

Position 1 – Assigned to Municipal Services Admin Offices – Monday thru Friday 8:30a-12:30p – Some flexibility may exist for scheduled hours.
In addition to filling the immediate vacancy, candidates that pass the oral board interview will be considered in the establishment of an employment eligibility list. The eligibility list will be used to fill any additional vacancies in the Continuing Part-time position over the next twelve months.
