Position : REM General Labor 1
Job Description : This position requires the responsibility to feed and load cheese, fold bags, rework and redice, and perform general housekeeping duties. In addition, this position requires responsibility for the proper brine flow through the system by maintaining and cleaning brine filters and monitoring the brine conveyor, cooper cutters, and take-out conveyors. The position provides secondary coverage for the high speed scale and box maker operator on scheduled absences (i.e.; days off, vacations, leave of absences). This position interacts regularly with department operators, quality technicians, maintenance technicians, and department management. The General Labor is a Bracket 1 position and must be able to perform basic mechanical functions and understand the required Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s). Position coverage is for the following roles: General Labor, High Speed Scale Operator, and Boxmaker Operator.
Job Duties:
Inspect string cheese for deformities and extraneous.
Pack cheese.
Load cheeses on conveyor and perform visual inspection.
Maintain good housekeeping at all times, including cleaning empty tubs and weighing scrap.
Observe proper safety policies and procedures at all times.
Fold bags into boxes so none are exposed when box is closed.
Monitor quality of boxes before running through the tape machine.
Visual inspection, perform the duties per established SOP’s.
Reliefs employees for breaks.
Operates the following machinery: taper, scale, box maker, labeler, trash compactor, and cardboard compactor.
Enters test results into computer system.
Perform any other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be able to work flexible schedule in order to support 24/7 operation, including weekends, holidays, and off-shifts.
Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
Must be able to read and write and perform basic mathematical functions.
Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior work experience in dairy or food manufacturing.
Skills & Abilities/Competencies:
Ability to influence and communicate upward, laterally, and downward without any direct line authority in writing and verbally.
Demonstrated attention to details.
Mechanical minded with ability to trouble shoot minor equipment problems.
Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision.
Physical Demands and Environment:
This position will be exposed to working in a wet/slippery environment with loud noise in varying degrees of temperature.
Specific vision may be required for this position, including close vision, distance vision, color and depth perception, and the ability to read computer screens for extended time periods.
Must be able to lift and carry heavy equipment/objects throughout the shift (up to 50 lbs).
Occasional walking, standing, climbing up stairs/ladders, bending, and reaching required.
Must be able to perform essential job functions of position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Pay Rate: $20.00/hour
$500.00 sign-on bonus (paid after 90 days of employment)
