Job Status: Short-term Worker; Non-exempt
Time Period: Approximately early April to late July/early August

Job Overview:
The Conservation Lands Restoration Attendant will assist with management of natural resources across 5000 acres of City conservation land through control of invasive plant species and restoration of native plant communities.

Core duties and responsibilities to include:
Provides maintenance and restoration of native plant communities and wildlife habitat on Conservation Lands.
Invasive species control using chemical and mechanical methods (herbicide application, hand pulling, cutting, chipping, etc.)
Collection and propagation of native plant materials in a greenhouse and field setting.
Light forestry work to improve forest health and control woody invasive species.
General maintenance of prior restoration planting projects and sites, such as watering and weeding.

Requirements for this job include:
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or technical school
Verified acceptable driving record

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge in the use of some of the following tools/equipment: herbicide application, chainsaws, weed eaters, power tools, light dump trucks, ATV’s, UTV”s, brush- chippers and assorted gardening implements.
Basic knowledge of Missoula’s open space system
Basic knowledge of Montana’s or greater northern Rocky Mountain region native and invasive plants and animals
Ability to perform manual tasks with minimum supervision.
Ability to work independently and to take verbal and written directions
Ability to safely perform required duties in an outdoor environment with variable environmental conditions.
Ability to operate small power equipment, hand tools, and operate light equipment in a safe and effective manner.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other employees and the public.
Ability to represent the City of Missoula in a professional manner.

Special Conditions:
Variable dates available from early April – late July/early August
Duties frequently performed on steep terrain in undesirable physical conditions where noise, heat, dampness or cold are encountered.
Duties will include applying chemical and mechanical invasive species control methods.
Lifting and moving of equipment and material weighting up to 50lbs.
