English/Language Arts TEACHER – Starting 2022 – 2023 School Year
Rainier Jr/Sr High School
Duties: The English/Language Arts teacher develops and promotes english instruction for students, and is responsible for the group and individual instruction. The teacher works with an emphasis on students who do not meet or struggle to meet the state standards. Monitors student progress and adjusts curriculum to meet student’s needs and also maintains a cooperative attitude with staff, parents and students.
Essential Requirements:
Holds an appropriate license and English endorsement from TSPC (Teachers Standards and Practices Commission) in the State of Oregon.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of Positive Behavior Support.
Knowledge and understanding of Oregon State Standards and a commitment to assists students to succeed.
Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents and other school personnel.
Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff or district patrons.
Ability to model and work harmoniously with others.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide a variety of classroom techniques and methods
Implement a variety of summative and formative assessments
Promote a high level of achievement in all students
Use techniques and methodologies appropriate to student abilities
Demonstrate knowledge and ability to use research-based principles of effective instruction
Organize instruction using learning objectives with clearly defined student outcomes.
Employ teaching strategies congruent with planned student outcomes
Select teaching strategies emphasizing student involvement
Monitor student learning and pace instruction accordingly
Develop and maintain an environment that promotes effective student learning
Develop written rules of classroom behavior and communicate those rules to all students
Monitor and enforce PBIS rules for classroom behavior
Communicate course goals and academic expectations to students and parents
Prepare effectively for class
Prepare daily lesson plans
Provide instruction based on district English standards and individual student needs
Communicate grading standards to students and parents
Establish written grading standards that are clear and incorporate a variety of graded activities
Assure that grading standards are explained, understood by the students and available to parents
Develop and maintain positive interpersonal relationships
Model personal behaviors of honesty, fairness, courtesy, and consideration
Maintain a cooperative relationship with administration, staff, and parents
Share appropriate information with parents and other staff members
Provide documentation of students’ progress
Provide timely and accurate feedback/documentation to students, parents, and appropriate staff members
Assign and check homework and provide feedback to students
Maintain appropriate records of student performance
Build motivation and interest in learning
Exhibit personal interest and encourage student interest in the subject area
Maintain a current awareness of literature/activities in the subject area
Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment. The Rainier School District believes that every individual makes a significant contribution to our student’s success.
