This position will enable the schools we serve to focus on what is most important – students’ learning, while you:
Direct and support all fiscal activities for the academies we serve.
Providing operational support and guidance to dedicated school bookkeepers on where to record transactions and assist with vendor relations as needed.
Reviewing school bookkeeper entries and processing bi-weekly checks to vendors.
Recording occasional monthly invoices and journal entries.
Reviewing and maintaining accurate payroll registers by providing the payroll department with account codes and reconciling payroll data on a monthly basis.
Performing all the necessary month-end close processes for multiple schools on a timely basis.
Compiling and/or reviewing and distributing financial information by required due dates.
Ensuring adherence to school accounting regulations and policies.
Managing school grant awards including maintaining detailed records of expenditures, requesting funds, and submitting reports.
Preparing fund budgets in accordance with state requirements and presenting fund budget recommendations to stakeholders.
Engaging with school Boards to provide regular financial updates.
Collecting and sharing budgetary information with school leadership to assist in the decision-making process.
Monitoring school cash flow.
Facilitating year-end annual financial audits.
Assisting with the planning and execution of both short-term and long-term borrowings.
Participating in school-level strategic planning initiatives.
Work is performed in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles established by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board, federal and state regulatory agencies, and other statutory requirements pertaining to public school academies in Michigan. This position reports to the Director of Finance.

Understands and applies basic internal controls and company policies as it relates to the financial statements (i.e. account reconciliations, detailed support, proper approvals, etc.)
Works effectively with others and individually
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Must be able to multitask
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and accounting software
Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and professionalism
Demonstrates effective judgment and operates with a high level of integrity
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to ensure the safeguarding of the students, equipment, materials, and facilities of our educational partners and of the company.
Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
Qualifications for this role include:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
Experience in school or government accounting a plus
Knowledge of GASB GAAP
Minimum of five years of accounting experience
CPA encouraged but not required.
