Job Description : Position Overview
The Infection Prevention Officer”s primary mission is to establish and maintain an Infection Prevention and Control Program (IPCP) designed to provide a safe, sanitary and comfortable environment and to help prevent the development and transmission of communicable diseases and infections.
Job Summary: The Infection Prevention Officer (IPO) is responsible for the IPCP. This includes developing, maintaining, and training facility staff on written standards, policies, and procedures required by state and federal laws and regulations. The IPO has the authority to institute infection control measures established through organizational policy and procedures. The IPO may establish isolation or other special precautions, visitor restrictions, and outbreak control measures. Job Responsibilities
~ Develops and implements an ongoing infection prevention and control program (IPCP).
~ Establishes facility-wide systems for the prevention, identification, investigation and control of infections of residents, staff, and visitors.
~ Develop and implement written policies and procedures for infection control.
~ Current knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations that apply to infection control.
~ Utilize a system for recording incidents identified under the facility”s IPCP and the corrective actions taken by the facility.
~ Participates and reports on a regular basis on the IPCP at the facility”s quality assessment and assurance committee as an active member.
~ Collaborates with the Medical Director on specific facility concerns.
~ Oversee the antibiotic stewardship program.
~ Demonstrates knowledge of and respect for the rights, dignity and individuality of each resident in all interactions. Demonstrates competency in the protection and promotion of resident rights. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities – The job requires knowledge of physical, biological and behavioral sciences; assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation practices; medical and patient care practices. Must be willing to learn principles and practice of Infection Control, educational and learning theories, health psychology theories, facility assessments, and program implementation and evaluation.
The job requires excellent verbal and written communication skills; analytical skills necessary to prepare program documents, coordinate and implement effective infection prevention; and to develop solutions to problems concerning a patient’s physical or environmental well-being. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations; resident rights and confidentiality requirements, work independently in a dependable manner; be able to effectively deal with stress. Requires skills in public relations, organizing and prioritizing work; and in developing approaches to infection prevention and control issues that have an impacts on residents, staff, and stakeholders.
The job requires the ability to exercise independent professional judgment, to collaborate with others as needed, evaluate practices, to project a positive image of the facility, and to work effectively with staff in all departments.
The job may be performed with the expectation of 10 hours in the facility and remainder of the hours done remotely at the discretion of the Administrator. Education Requirements
The job requires primary professional training in nursing, medical technology, microbiology, epidemiology, or another related field with (2) years” experience. The IPO is qualified by education, training, experience or certification. Specialized training in infection prevention and control within the first six (6) moths of hire. The job requires possession of a valid Montana driver”s license and a current CPR certification. Current knowledge in the field of infectious disease and epidemiology is preferred.
Must maintain a good citizen court record free of abusing, neglecting or mistreating individuals in a health care related setting. Job Advertisement
