Position : Childcare Assistant – Canby High School

Job Description : This position is 5.75 hrs/day, 194 days/year (pro-rated to start date). Part time health insurance benefits will be offered. Provide instruction, supervision, and direct care to children. Provide training, supervision and assessment for high school cadet students. This position corresponds to the “Teacher” position as outlined in the Rules for the Certification of Child Care Centers, Oregon Employment Division. Required to follow all COVID-19 health and safety protocols and Early Learning Division requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Implement activities, lessons, and daily routines for children, including but not limited to appropriate play, academic activities, rest time, potty training, table manners, utensil use, personal hygiene and clean up.
Implement appropriate activities and lessons based on age and development of children being supervised.
Continually monitor and supervise children and their learning space making decisions about what the needs of the classroom are and how to address them. This may include directing student helpers.
Support the hands-on learning of high school cadet students as they develop skills related to child development and child care.
Training high school cadet students in duties, routines, and guidance techniques for young children with the Childcare Center. Duties include but are not limited to doing dishes, laundry, sanitizing toys, and making snacks and meals.
Monitor and assess high school cadet student’s performance and provide input for grades.
Provide nurturing and non-judgmental care to children and their parents. Communicate with student and staff parents. Encourage, build self-esteem, and help student parents feel ‘safe’ and comfortable in the Childcare Center.
Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment.
Work as a supportive and positive team member with everyone in the Center.
Understand and maintain confidentiality of children and parents.
Complete ASQ’s for the Star Rating QRIS.
Complete mandatory yearly continued education hours for the Oregon Registry.
Maintain daily records as needed, including feedings, changing, behavior records, and incident reports.
Provide feedback to parents on status and needs of children.
Participate in training and meetings as directed by supervisor or designee.
Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must meet minimum qualification requirements as delineated in OAR 414-300-0100, including:
Be at least 18 years of age
Have completed a combination of coursework and/or experience as described in the “Teacher” definition in the Rules for the Certification of Child Care Centers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to apply basic child care skills.
Knowledge of problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
Have or the ability to obtain a standard first aid card, a CPR card, and a Food Handlers Card.
Ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with supervisors, coworkers, students, parents, and general public.
Passage of fingerprint-based criminal records check at employee expense required upon offer of employment as required by law. Registration in State of Oregon’s CCD’s Criminal History Registry
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
Applicant agrees to assume cost and arrange for FINGERPRINT-BASED CRIMINAL RECORDS CHECK upon offer of employment. ($12.50 at printing; $59 payroll deduction). In addition to salary, the district pays the employee’s 6% PERS contribution.
All district employees will be required to provide proof of vaccination, or documentation of a medical or non-medical exception using the Oregon Health Authorities form.
