WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We’re looking for a high-impact Finance Manager passionate about providing strategic finance support to the senior leadership of Valiant Labs (“VL”) based in the LeBron James Innovation Center! You are passionate about the convergence of entrepreneurship, technology, and innovation in service of athletes*. In addition to core financial management proficiencies such as business planning and investment management, outstanding candidates will develop strategic insights to advise long-term strategy and decision making by Valiant’s investment committee.
This role collaborates with VL senior leadership and VL Entrepreneurs-in-Residence to enable strategic prioritization for the VL portfolio and assess in-year performance of all bets for the Lab. The candidate needs to have excellent analytical skills, attention to detail paired with the abilty to see the bigger picture, a strong work ethic and a strong client service attitude.
WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
As the Finance Manager in Innovation you will play a key role in driving strategic investments and portfolio analysis to help VL achieve its strategic portfolio objectives. Responsibilities include:
Enabling investment related decision making through appropriate modelling and scenario analysis
Supporting Entrepreneurs-in-Residence in development of investment plans
Developing recommendations from complex data and business analyses and formulating them into business plans
Driving the construction of highly innovative statistical and financial models to analyze new aspects of business performance
Delivering analytics driven insights to accelerate innovation growth
Maintaining positive relationships with key stakeholders across the business
Routinely exercising independent judgment in developing methods, techniques and criteria for achieving objectives
Conducting ad-hoc analysis in support of strategic initiatives

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
You’ll be a member of a diverse, high-performing, team that provides best-in-class financial, analytical, and strategic support to our Innovation business partners, including Nike’s Vice President of Innovation Labs, Valiant Labs General Manager, Valiant Labs Head of Portfolio and the CFO for Advanced Innovation. You’ll also partner closely with Innovation Strategy, Business Operations and HR Business Partners. This role reports the Finance Director of Innovation Labs.
WHAT YOU BRING
Bachelor’s degree or higher in a business-related field with emphasis in Finance or Accounting
5+ years experience in finance, strategic planning, investment analysis, economic profit analysis, accounting and/or budgeting
Exceptional analytical skills
Extensive knowledge of how to analyze business problems using Excel, statistical analysis, and financial modeling
Ability to lead multiple, large, time sensitive projects or work streams
High accuracy and attention to detail
Strong problem solving skills with the ability to communicate effectively with others and being resourceful in solving problems independently
Strong information seeking skills and drive to make things happen
Ability to exercise high degree of professionalism
Client service attitude
Strong work ethic, and willingness to go the ‘extra mile’
Ability to articulate financial concepts to both finance and non-finance business partners in a clear and concise manner
Advanced proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint
