The Library Diversity and Inclusion Specialist (D&IS) is an important member of library administration. As the D&IS, you will help prepare our employee community to promote the Library’s mission, operate within our values and help progress DEI and workplace culture/climate (DEIC&C.) You will also guide the U-M Library Diversity Plan. In fulfillment of these goals, you will provide leadership, consultation, programming and systems/data analysis around internal issues and external trends about diversity, equity, inclusion and workplace culture/climate.
You will report to the library Director of Organizational Development and DEI and will be an important member of the Deans’ Office leadership team. You will have direct access to both the Dean and Associate Dean of the Library and will have autonomy to access library divisions, departments, committees and individual colleagues on your own accord.
You Will
Develop, promote, implement and evaluate DEIC&C related events, programs, initiatives and services.
Develop DEIC&C related events and programs.
Establish methods for continuous improvement in areas related to DEI and workplace culture/climate.
Manage the DEI programming budget with consultation from Deans’ Office leadership.
Represent the Deans’ Office on select library committees, including the Library Diversity Council.
Represent the library on select university, community and professional committees or working groups, including the UM DEI Leads Group as the library Diversity Plan implementation lead.
Identify relevant projects occurring within the library community. Determine and put in place appropriate levels of support, recognition and effect enhancement.
Provide DEI, culture, and climate mentorship and leadership to library colleagues working onsite and remotely.
Communicate with a diverse audience to build understanding of DEIC&C related research, data and current issues/trends.
Take part in targeted professional development.
You Have
Bachelor’s degree with five or more years of professional experience supporting organizational change, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education
Experience developing DEIC&C related events and programs with a diverse range of partners.
Experience with strategic planning around DEIC&C goals.
Experience with mentorship or leadership with colleagues such as conflict resolution, workplace coaching, goal setting or leading workgroups.
Experience in successful collaboration in enlisting colleagues to contribute to change processes related to DEIC&C.
