Fingerprint Technician E Level
Producing a legible set of fingerprints for all new commits arriving at the Reception and Guidance Center to ensure positive identification of prisoners entering in the prison system. Completes Photographic Services for incoming prisoners and makes sure identification is accurate i.e. birthday, scars, tattoos. Continuous immediate contact with prisoners, requiring direct supervision of prisoners.

Fingerprint Technician A Level
Producing a legible set of fingerprints for all new commits arriving at the Reception and Guidance Center to ensure positive identification of prisoners entering in the prison system. Completes Photographic Services for incoming prisoners and makes sure identification is accurate i.e. birthday, scars, tattoos. Continuous immediate contact with prisoners, requiring direct supervision of prisoners. This position functions as a recognized resource based on the senior level concept at the WHV Reception and Guidance Center.

Position Description A Level

New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
Required Education and Experience
Education
Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.

Experience
Fingerprint Technician 7
Two years of general office support experience.
Fingerprint Technician 8
One year of experience equivalent to a Fingerprint Technician.
Fingerprint Technician E9
Two years of experience equivalent to a Fingerprint Technician, including one year
equivalent to a Fingerprint Technician 8.
Fingerprint Technician 10
Three years of experience equivalent to a Fingerprint Technician, including one year
equivalent to a Fingerprint Technician E9.

Additional Requirements and Information
Fingerprint Technician 7
Individuals must complete the Fingerprint Identification Course offered through the American Institute of Applied Science within the first year of entry into the job, or complete a comparable training course approved by the Department of State Police, or have received comparable training through on-the-job experience obtained through a major outside law enforcement agency or organization. Failure to meet this requirement will preclude advancement beyond the entry level.
Fingerprint Technician 10
Completion of both an approved expert witness course and training in providing court testimony.

Leave Time

Full-time employees receive between 15 and 35 vacation days per year. Paid Parental Leave

Provides eligible individuals up to 12 weeks of paid leave immediately following birth or adoption of a child.

Deferred Compensation

Employees may invest income in a tax-deferred retirement investment program. The state offers two optional deferred compensation plans, the 457 and 401(k). Employees decide the amount deducted from their paychecks.

Retirement

Employees receive a minimum 4% state contribution toward their retirement fund. If an employee elects to contribute more, the state will match up to 3%. The Office of Retirement Services administers two different retirement plans for State of Michigan employees: Defined Benefit (DB) and Defined Contribution (DC). New hires can also receive up to a 2% employer match into a Personal Healthcare Fund and a lump-sum credit to a tax-deferred account if eligible.
