Job Description : HIPAA Compliance OfficerHours/FTE: 40 hours per weekSchedule: M-FReports to: LeadershipTeamCoordination/Staff Leadership Responsibilities: NoWork remotely: PartialWage: $28/hr. starting wageCompensation Details: We offer a very competitive benefits package for qualifying staff. Health, dental and vision insurance are available on the first of the month following 60 consecutive days of employment @ 30 hrs. or more per week. Overtime is paid for all positions, as all staff are non-exempt.Benefits: 19 days of paid vacation per year. Paid Sick Leave – begins immediately, may be carried over to the next year up to 144 hours. 1 hour of sick leave is accrued for every 30 hours worked. There are 7 days of paid holiday and 1 floating holiday. We welcome you to have a closer look at what we do at https://whitebirdclinic.org/ General Position DescriptionThe HIPAA privacy officer is responsible for establishing and maintaining systems that are effective and efficient to assure the privacy of patient protected health information, educating the work force in compliance with HIPAA privacy provisions and is accountable for the facility’s privacy program and all associated policies and procedures that serve the best interest of clients, employees and business associates.ResponsibilitiesCommunication/ TrainingProvide information regarding privacy for all departments and appropriate entities.Oversees training and orientation of employees, volunteers, medical staff, business associates, etc., regarding HIPAA privacy regulations.Foster information privacy awareness with facility employees and related entities.Works with program coordinators to ensure coordination and cooperation under the clinic’s HIPAA privacy policies and procedures.Represents the organization on privacy issues with external parties (state or local government bodies, businessPolicies and proceduresIdentifies privacy policies and procedures necessary for the organization.Assures all necessary policies and procedures are written in plain, clear language, approved and distributed.Oversees training and implementation of all privacy policies and procedures.Regulatory ComplianceStays current on federal and state privacy laws. Routinely complete privacy gap analysis of current laws with organization compliance.Ensures the facility meets HIPAA privacy standards deadlines.Assessment and MonitoringAssesses the organization’s current privacy compliance status vs necessary (gap analysis). Periodically reassesses status.Works with the appropriate individuals to ensure each program has, implements and maintains the appropriate privacy forms, materials and practices.Facilitates the implementation and monitoring of business associate agreements.Reports problems to administration and acts if problems happen.Along with Administration and health information management, establishes mechanisms for accessing, providing and tracking requests for access to patient information. In addition, will ensure patient rights to inspect, amend and restrict access to their protected health information.Establishes and administers a process for receiving complaints concerning the facilities privacy policies and procedures. Documents, tracks and take action on these complaints.Ensures consistent action to be taken for failure to comply with privacy for all employees on the work force and for business associates.
