Job Description : Safe Space “Shelter Manager” Position DescriptionJob Title: Shelter ManagerAccountability: Executive DirectorStatus: ExemptSalary: $35,568.00 (Annually)Overview: This is a grant-funded full time, 40 hour per week, position at Safe Space’s domestic violence shelter in Butte, Montana. The position will primarily work Monday-Friday mornings from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., where adjustments may be made for evening and/or weekend shifts based on the needs of the program. The primary responsibility of this position is providing shelter maintenance and overseeing the daily needs of the shelter based programs, as well as, providing advocacy services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.Overall Responsibilities: Perform necessary shelter maintenance, update equipment and appliances to ensure proper working order and respond to daily needs; oversee all material donations received following the set protocols; provide crisis intervention, victim’s assistance and advocacy; assess residential program participants’ needs and coordinate with other shelter staff to provide a comprehensive program for each; work in coordination with other staff under the supervision of Executive Director; other managerial duties and tasks as assigned by the Executive Director.Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in social or human services, or equivalent experience, and an understanding of the issue of domestic violence and sensitivity to the plight of battered women; crisis intervention, problem-solving and advocacy skills, knowledge of resources; ability to utilize empowerment philosophy, to remain non-judgmental and to work with diverse populations; ability to work with volunteers. Employee must have strong organizational skills, as well as, excellent written and oral communications skills. Employee must be capable of working independently and as a team player with little direct supervision. Employee must have a valid driver’s license, vehicle, and liability insurance.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Able to speak and work well with othersWritten and verbal skills to support tasks of the position of Shelter SupervisorAble to work in stressful and quick changing environmentComputer literate for programs such as Microsoft Word and ExcelSpecific Duties of Shelter Supervisor: Daily shelter cleaning, i.e. general housekeeping duties, as outlined upon employment. Complete heavy cleaning as needed.Prepare each resident room for new clients, including utilization of Universal Precautions. (Staff are not responsible for cleaning client rooms while they are in the shelter. Clients are also responsible for cleaning up after their children and after all meals.)Purchase and stock shelter with daily consumable supplies, and maintain specified budgetary limits.Repair/maintain shelter facility and equipment to ensure safety, healthy environment for residents, clients, staff and volunteers.Organize donations received by Safe Space, arrange for removal of overflow, and maintain the donation supply rooms.Send out thank you documents and donation receipts. Record and report monthly to Executive Director.Assist clients in choosing items needed from donation rooms and accurate document items in charts.Provide immediate crisis intervention via telephone and in person.Assess client needs; assist with safety planning.Provide emotional support, information regarding all known options, assistance in working out a plan of action acceptable to callers and residents.Make decisions as to admittance of shelter residents using approved guidelines and notify director upon admission.Make referrals to other appropriate agencies/services.Coordinate with other staff for services of men, women and children, act as back up for other staff as needed.Maintain and disseminate resource information on domestic violence and sexual assault issues.Assist with special events as delegated by Executive Director.Participate in all program staff meetings, in-service training, and required conferences and meetings.Perform intake and exit services as needed. Explain forms and see that all forms are signed, assign room, personal toiletry items, explain House Rules and regulations to new clients and insure compliance of rules on shift.Acquaint clients with emergency procedures and implement any emergency procedures when necessary. Provide routine safety checks of the shelter and report any hazardous conditions or routine maintenance to Executive Director.Contact/ communicate with law enforcement regarding safety of clients as needed.Hold house meetings to insure welfare and safety of all clients according to policy and procedure manual. Ensure all clients sign in and provide log of house meeting sign ins and meeting topics to Executive Director Monthly.Document client activities into client charts daily, crisis calls, business calls, client referrals to and from outside agencies/programs, and all advocacy meetings.Provide family orientation to shelter, supervising shelter activities, promoting positive resident interaction, offering conflict resolution during disagreements, educating residents about positive communications, and routinely provide parenting and life skills guidance.Work with staff and other agencies to provide culturally appropriate services to all resident and non-resident survivors program to ensure culturally specific services for sexual assault and domestic violence survivorsInput all statistical data entry on a weekly basis for new and existing clients.Collects and organizes data and statistics into reports required by grants and Safe Space on a weekly, monthly, semi-annual, and annual basis or as requested by the Executive Director.Report monthly to the Executive Director by the 5thof each month all statistical data requested.Oversee and maintain program website and social media pagesOther duties as assigned by the Executive DirectorThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
