Job Description : CITY OF PHOENIX Assistant Planner Job AnnouncementABOUT THE POSITION The City of Phoenix is accepting applications for a full‐time, limited duration Assistant Planner position. Phoenix was severely impacted by the September 2020 Alameda Fire, losing nearly 600 residential units and some 40 non‐residential structures. This position will assist in the effort to bring people and businesses back to Phoenix while also improving plans and processes for future growth and development. The City has secured funding for the position through June 2023.Hours: Full‐time, non‐exempt.Starting Salary: $3719 ‐ $4747 a month depending on qualifications.Benefits: Medical/dental/vision insurance, employer‐funded HRA‐VEBA, Oregon PERS retirement benefits.THE PERSON The Assistant Planner performs a variety of routine administrative, technical and professional work in the current and/or long-range planning programs of the City related to the development and implementation of land use and related municipal plans and policies. The ideal candidate must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as state laws, city ordinances, planning documents, and procedure manuals; demonstrate sound judgment when exercising problem‐solving and decision‐making skills; use tact, judgment, and courtesy when dealing with the public; work independently and consistently meet deadlines, and establish/maintain effective relationships with internal and external partners.DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS In order to be considered for this position, applicants must have a combination of education and experience equivalent to that outlined below, plus any other listed screening qualifications.Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in land use planning; urban planning, landscape architecture, or a closely related field.Experience: Professional planning experience to perform the job effectively, preferably in the public sector, or equivalent.
