Job Description : Title: Prosthetic/Orthotic Assistant Department: POPSLocation: Portland, ORHours: 40 hours/weekSchedule: M-FNote: Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapist assistants and Occupational Therapist assistants encouraged to apply!Job Summary: Shriners Hospitals for Children – Portland is seeking a Prosthetic/Orthotic Assistant. The Prosthetic/Orthotic assistant is responsible for the measurement, casting, modification, fabrication and fitting of prosthetic and orthotic devices under the direct supervision of an ABC Certified Practitioner. Additionally, they are responsible for the timely and compliant patient documentation utilizing OPIE EMR system and supporting front office staff. The Prosthetic/Orthotic Assistant is responsible to monitor their WIP and direct the technical staff in fabrication of specific orthotic and prosthetic devices following an organized and orderly work flow with reasonable delivery dates of the orthosis/prosthesis to patients.Responsibilities: Adherence to ABC Standards.Compliant data entry in OPIE EMR System.The utilization of CAD systems for device modification.Working directly with O&P Clinical staff.Aid technical staff.The ability to utilize casting materials, patient scanning techniques and the modification of casts and scanned images.Orthotic and prosthetic patient fittings and adjustment along with daily and after-hours orthotic and prosthetic clinic coverage.Communication skills to effectively work with physicians, patients, families, members of the healthcare team, employees, students, visitors, and volunteers.Professional appearance and behavior and the ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the hospital.To understand and be responsible for proper documentation for medical records, coding and billing responsibilities for all devices.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Meets education requirements established by the American Board for Certification in in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics.ABC Certification as an Orthotics/Prosthetics Assistant or Board Eligible.The knowledge and ability to safely use equipment related to the O&P industry.The ability to design and supervise the fabrication of safe and functional prosthetic and orthotic devices.The ability to work in a dynamic and diverse environment with a patient population exhibiting physical disabilities.Computer skills for data entry, digital scanning and digital model modification.Letter writing skills and skills in public speaking.Company Overview: Shriners Hospitals for Children is committed to providing the highest quality care to children with neurologic and musculoskeletal conditions, burn injuries and other special healthcare needs within a compassionate, family-centered and collaborative care environment.Our work environment is mission driven, high quality and provides great satisfaction to all professionals through the unique health care setting.
