We invite you to serve in beautiful Missoula Montana! Every season invites you to get outside and explore – from downhill and cross-country skiing to floating the Clark Fork River to hiking and camping at mountain lakes – Missoula is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. It’s also a lively college town with an established music and arts scene, concerts, and film and book festivals. As one of the hundreds of nonprofits in the city, Recycling Works is the ONLY organization helping Montanans in this area reduce their environmental impact by recycling their glass. Our mission is to find professional and efficient sustainable solutions that eliminate excess waste and safeguard Western Montana’s pristine beauty. Right now, Missoula’s only recycling option is a single, ‘all-in-one’ bin. On average, 30% of materials recycled in this way are contaminated and get sent to a landfill. Our new multi-stream service offers an efficient alternative to reduce contamination and recycle a greater percentage of material. We ethically commit to serving our community and protecting the environment, and all of our profits go to charitable causes. This VISTA position offers the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of managing a successful nonprofit or small business, leverage resources for the reduction of poverty, and become a valuable contributing member to the direction of Recycling Works’ future operations.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will help launch an entirely new line of business collecting ‘multi-stream’ recycling (sorted paper, cardboard, metal, plastic) to complement our current successful offerings of glass recycling and compost collection. This project will have social benefits in addition to environmental benefits, as we expect to create good-paying jobs for unskilled workers and fund education and housing initiatives by donating our profits, which will ultimately impact poverty reduction positively. Since our start in 2018, we have donated over $24,000 to education and housing programs and have expanded services beyond just glass and Missoula. As of 2021, we are the official glass recycler of Glacier National Park! The VISTA will be based in our office in Missoula and be at the forefront of the new multi-stream service. Other duties include fundraising, grant writing, social media management, advertising, sales, web page editing, accounting, and business strategy.
