Job Description : Summary
The City of Bend is actively recruiting for full-time seasonal/temporary support staff positions. These positions will assist City of Bend crews with various projects through the spring/summer and early fall.
Join our team to learn about municipal facility and/or infrastructure operations, and gain new skills in grounds maintenance, water system repairs and maintenance, street maintenance, and right-of-way landscaping based on the area of assignment. Selected candidates must pass a criminal history background check and motor vehicle records check.
This class performs a wide variety of manual semi-skilled duties involved in:
Utility Department:
Repair and maintenance – support water/stormwater system repairs and maintenance
Equipment operations – operate one-ton service trucks with trailers
Field related labor tasks – site cleanup and/or other assigned duties
Transportation and Mobility Department (Streets)
Street repair and maintenance – paving. patching, paint striping
Right of Way landscape maintenance
Cemetery grounds maintenance
Field related labor tasks – site cleanup and/or other assigned duties
Facilities Department:
Assist Facility Technicians on various remodel projects
Perform minor building repairs
Perform scheduled preventative building maintenance
Assist with office moves and furniture builds
Related labor tasks – site cleanup and/or other assigned duties
Temporary positions are limited-benefit eligible, ‘at will’ temporary, non-represented positions. Temporary employee benefit information can be found on the benefits tab under Temporary Medical Only Benefits.
An eligibility list will be created from this recruitment to be utilized for future seasonal positions within a variety of departments. The eligibility list will be valid for no more than three months.

Functions, Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following duties and responsibilities, which are listed in no particular order of importance. (Duties vary depending on the division of employment)
Assists with building maintenance/repair
Assists with installing and repairing water lines and other items related to water/stormwater infrastructure
Assists in grading, paving, and patching streets.
Cuts and disposes of trees, bushes, and weeds; maintains lawns and landscaping.
Reads and assists in repairing water meters.
Assists with hydrant maintenance and repairs.
Flags traffic and spots equipment for construction, maintenance, and repair projects.
Learns to operate trucks, compressors, jackhammers, power tools, and other light equipment which are incidental to general duties.
Performs parking lot and sidewalk cleaning and maintenance.
Performs street sweeper clean-up duties.
Performs other duties as required by the position.
Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications
Ability to learn the tools, equipment, safety requirements, methods, and materials used in general maintenance and repair work.
Some general mechanical aptitude and ability to perform manual tasks without constant supervision.
The ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English adequately to perform the duties of the position.
The ability to learn the operation of light automotive equipment and power-driven hand tools as required.
A high school education, GED, or equivalent level of training and experience is preferred.
Current and valid Oregon driver’s license per City policies outlined in the Employee Handbook

The work for this position typically requires: sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Coinsurance (Med-G) funding remaining at plan year end is forfeited and does not roll to the VEBA.
