Job Description : General Scope of Responsibility:Manage the ‘materials functions’ to assure 100% on-time delivery while maintaining control of inventories and a smooth manufacturing schedule.Note: ‘Materials functions’ include the production scheduling, warehousing (including shipping & receiving), customer service, inventory control, and purchasing functions.SPECIFIC DUTIES: Manage the personnel in the materials department.Identifies and secures approval for the staffing needs of the materials department.Recruits and hires qualified personnel as required.Provides for professional development and cross training of department personnel.Evaluates and rates performance of direct reports.Establishes environment conducive to high performance.Acts as a back-up to scheduling, warehouse, and shipping functions and/or provide coverage.Manage the systems and procedures needed to effectively perform the materials functions.Develops, maintains, improves, and assures the effective execution of documented procedures needed to effectively manage the ‘materials functions’ and comply with IATF 16949 and ISO 14001Keeps track of machines’ capacity and loading on existing, quoted, and future business to assure that the plant does not get overbooked; performs special capacity studies on request.Embraces Lean initiatives. Supports actions and tasks to achieve the “Visual Factory”. Applies Kan Ban, One Piece Flow, Heijunka Boards and other Lean scheduling techniques.Manages raw, in process, and finished goods inventories.Assures inventory obsolescence is avoided.Assures obsolescence claims against our customers are filed and paid.Maintains pre-established finished and raw material inventory levels.Manages/tracks container fleet.Monitors and takes corrective/improvement action on key departmental metrics.Customer delivery performance metrics.Premium freight for in-bound and out-bound materials.Vendor delivery, performance.Days on Hand (DOH).Performs and oversees various budget related tasks.Develops department overhead budget and assures bills and routers are correct during annual profit planning process.Manages the department overhead budget during the year.Assures bills and routers are entered correctly on new business and engineering changes.Assures errors in bills and routers are identified and eliminated.The above statements are intended to describe the essential functions and related requirements of persons assigned to this job. They are not intended as an exhaustive list of all job duties, responsibilities and requirements.QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Work Experience, etc.):Minimum [Must have to be considered for the position]: Bachelor’s Degree in business or related field.6 years of experience in production, inventory control, and purchasing functions in an automotive environment.Experience with MRP and master schedules.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Five years or more of direct supervisory experience.SMART/DDL and ASN experience.Experience with automotive supplier applications including bar code, EDI and JIT applications.Desired [Will provide job holder with added skill(s) to perform duties]: APICS certifiedAdvanced degree in business or related fieldLevel 4 SPCTraining in communications skills, inventory accuracy, Lean Manufacturing, and customer systems (DDL, SMART).Key Performance Traits a.
