Job Description : LOCATION: Tribal Health Department

ALARY: $17.59 to $20.22 per hour plus benefits

CLOSING DATE: Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 5:30 p.m. (MST)

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

Position is not a Testing Designated Position within the definition of the CSKT Drug Free

Workplace Policy effective January 1, 1998. The successful applicant, if not already employed by

the Tribes must pass a prehire drug test and serve a mandatory six (6) month probationary

period.

The Veterans HealthCare Advocate is a technical position within the Healthcare Resources Division. The
primary goal of this outreach position is to increase local awareness of Veteran related issues and develop
strategies for increasing their participation in existing VA benefit programs for eligible Veterans.

Duties of the position include, but are not necessarily limited to the following:
Assist Veterans in completing forms to update patient registration for the Indian Health Services and
THD.
Assist Veterans in completing forms to update and apply for eligibility for VA benefit programs.
Photocopy documents required of the eligibility applications.
Maintain a database of applicants that assistance is provided to (phoning, photocopying, seeking
applications, transportation coordination, etc.).
Posting a schedule of office hours and locations for outreach.
Providing a weekly report to the supervisor identifying accomplishments and items pending.
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor include assisting THD beneficiaries with completing and
submitting application forms and documents for other applicable resources including Medicaid,
Medicare and Private Insurance
While assisting others with Medicaid, Medicare and Private Insurance, incumbent will photocopy forms,
required documents, and take the necessary steps to facilitate a completed application.
Care coordination for all veterans to include home health care, Mt. State Veterans Home placement, and
home modifications for disabled veterans, DME approval, surgery approval, and other services that
require prior authorization or alternate application process.
Assist with patient travel when requested by supervisor. This can be an unpredictable and urgent need.
Therefore the employee needs to understand the process and work quickly when this service is
requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (AS REFLECTED ON THE TRIBAL EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION):

Must have a 2 year degree in Social Work, Human Services or Sociology and 3 years’ experience in a
healthcare related field OR
5 years’ experience in Health Insurance (i.e. Sales, Claims Adjuster or Agent)
OR a 4 year degree in Business or Social Work.
Must become a Certified Application Counselor within 30 days of hire or placement in the position.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS (AS DETERMINED BY THE INTERVIEW):

3. Proof of enrollment from a federally recognized Tribe if other than CSKT.
