Job Description : Position Description: Development and Marketing DirectorClassification: Exempt Type: Full Time Reports to: Executive Director Date: March 2022Summary/Objective This position is responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive development and marketing and communications plan to support Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory goals and objectives. This position interacts with all constituencies, including the Board of Directors, volunteers, community partners, donors, and committee members, to accomplish the organization’s goals.Position Responsibilities Development Strategy Participate on Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory leadership teamStay up to date on current fundraising trends and develop strategies generating revenue to meet Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory goals.Share strategic direction of development with the Executive Director and Board of Directors.Work in collaboration with the Executive Director to forecast annual donation revenue.Works with the Executive Director to develop marketing strategies and budgets for all fundraising initiatives.Donor Relations Develop and implement major gifts plan, including major donor cultivation and retention strategies.Actively cultivate and steward major donor relations to maximize giving, retention, and donor satisfaction.Work with the Board to develop and implement a donor appreciation program.Develop budget, goals, materials, professional advisors, and donor relationships necessary for Planned Giving programs.Fundraising Initiatives & Engagement Develop and implement strategies for year-round audience and sponsor development that connects them with SunriverNature Center & Observatory’s mission and inspires the greatest levels of engagement and participation through events, beneficiary events, direct mail, peer-to-peer and online avenues.Design, develop and oversee a comprehensive Annual Giving program.Design, develop and oversee all direct mail programs.Responsible for all event vendor selection and stewardship.Be available to connect with the community as appropriate to present tours, and any public speaking engagements or interviews as needed.Implement and coordinate special projects as needed.Marketing & Communications Develop and direct overall marketing plans and strategies.Work closely with marketing agency/partner providing strategic direction for all Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory marketing initiatives, including content/messaging and creative input.Work with the Marketing Manager to develop marketing strategies and budgets for their specific area.Work with Marketing Manager to set Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory annual marketing strategy and media buys with external contractor.Ensure all internal and external communications align with Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory branding and messaging.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.Supervisory Responsibility Design SpecialistEvent and Volunteer ManagerDonor Relations, Visitor Services and Retail SpecialistWork Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee works indoors and outdoors, which may include extreme temperatures, with a diverse population and wildlife.Travel This position requires some travel.Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in a related field.Five years of direct management.Five years of non-profit development/fundraising.Three years marketing.Preferred Education and Experience Bilingual in SpanishOther Duties Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities of the employee to do this job.
