We are seeking a two permanent Social Service Assistants and two limited duration Social Service Assistants to join our Eugene Office of Child Welfare team. The limited duration positions are scheduled to end one year after the employment start date. Limited duration employees are eligible for benefits.

What you will be doing:
As a Social Service Assistant in the Eugene Office of Child Welfare, you will play a critical role in assisting Caseworkers in achieving positive outcomes for children and their families. You will support Caseworkers by completing paperwork, completing referrals, transporting children, and completing administrative tasks. You will also work with families and children in the field. Field work will consist of transporting children (some of these children will be in temporary lodging) to visits, medical appoints, and other social service or agency related appointments. Additionally, you will supervise visitation between children, parents and family members and will take case notes of observations. Some of your additional responsibility will include providing behavioral support to children in temporary lodging, including redirection and guidance. You will maintain care for children in temporary lodging, related to hygiene, school, appointments, etc.
As a Social Service Assistant, you will have the opportunity to be involved with several different cases, interact with a wide range of people, and enjoy a position where not one day will look the same as the next. Working conditions:
Travel with the purpose of transporting children is required. Some travel may be hours away.
Hours of work may fluctuate based on service needs. There are also opportunities for optional overtime.
Employee’s work will be conducted in a hybrid format that includes mostly office work, some field work, and some work that can be conducted remotely.
You may interact with a wide range of people including some who have experienced trauma, exhibit challenges in controlling their anger, or other unexpected emotions impacted by drug use, cognitive impairments, or other factors.
What you need to qualify:
One year of experience assisting professionals in one or more specialized social programs such as family services, children services, senior services, mental or developmental disability services, substance abuse programs, juvenile corrections programs or occupational skills programs, OR;
Possession of a current certification in child development, early childhood education, addiction counseling preparation or juvenile corrections, OR;
45 quarter hours, or 30 semester hours of college course work in sociology, psychology, early childhood education, criminal justice, human services, juvenile corrections, or occupational skills training , OR;
An associate degree in a field not closely related to social work/human services and six months of human services-related experience (e.g. work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, mental or physical disabilities, juvenile prevention, health, cultural competencies, and/or inadequate housing).
The State of Oregon requires all executive branch employees to complete their COVID-19 vaccination series or have an approved exception to the requirement due to a medical condition or sincerely held religious belief. Essential Attributes:

Ability to clearly articulate observations verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated ability to work well with diverse individuals, personal experiences and cultural backgrounds.

Demonstrated ability to work successfully both independently and collaboratively with a team.
Experience utilizing time management and prioritization skills to meet deadlines.
Ability to engage with families under challenging circumstances and remain calm in emotionally charged situations.
