Position Details
POSITION: Assistant Superintendent
POSTING DATE: March 8, 2022
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
LOCATION: Central Office
POSITION SUMMARY: This position will be responsible for the supervision of
administrators; the supervision and implementation of district instructional initiatives, programs,
strategies, and student assessment; procedural integration of instructional strategies into district
operations, professional development, mentorship, recruiting and hiring, evaluation, and
technology; and instructional and operational policy development.
QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
Master’s Degree with emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction or Administration.
Valid Michigan administrative certification or ability to qualify for same
per MCL 380.1246(1) (a) and 380.1536(1).
3-5 years successful public school administrative experience.
3-5 years successful public school classroom teaching experience.
Such alternatives to the above that the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
PREFERRED:
Advanced degree beyond Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction.
1-3 years successful public school central office/administrative experience.
WORK YEAR: 12-months – Individual Employment Contract.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervisory Obligations:
1. Supervises administrators in all assigned district functions.
2. Shares joint responsibility for the evaluation of all administrators.
3. Provides direct oversight to the Technology Department
District Operations:
1. Serves as Cabinet member, advising, informing, and contributing to all district budgetary,
instructional, and operational functions, sharing accountability for district performance.
2. Establishes and maintains an internal routing system for district paperwork
3. Integrates instructional revenues and strategic planning into district operations and objectives.
4. Serves as a district representative in labor management and negotiations.
5. Assists the district departments in the collection and use of student demographic information.

Instruction:
1. Supervises the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and instructional services.
2. Establishes a strategic plan for K-12 curriculum development
3. Supervises professional staff in projects of curriculum improvement through the K-12 curriculum
process.
4. Supervises the recommendation of the addition of new courses, grade placement of courses, credit
allowance for courses, and graduation requirements through the K-12 curriculum process.
5. Interprets the curriculum and its philosophy to the Board, the administration, the staff and the general
public.
6. Supervises the development and coordination of the curriculum and instructional budgets, using all
revenue sources.
7. Supervises the implementation and evaluation of district and building MTSS processes.
8. Leads curriculum development for any course newly mandated by legislation or by the Board.
9. Ensures compliance with all MDE and federal instructional mandates, assurances, and revenue
responsibilities, including Title and At-Risk revenue and compliance responsibilities.
10. Supervises the organization and coordination of grade level and departmental and other district-level
meetings to effect horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the instructional program
throughout the district.
11. Supervises and administers the District’s ELL program
Technology:
1. Establishes Educational Technology policy and practice, and supports the integration of instructional
initiatives through technology
2. Supervises and provides direction to the Director of Technology in matters of educational technology
and supports the coordination of technology infrastructure maintenance and planning.
3. Implements the Michigan Educational Technology Standards.
Staff Improvement:
1. Leads in the recruitment, screening, hiring, training and assigning of instructional personnel.
2. Supervises the development, implementation and evaluation of professional development for staff.
3. Assists the Superintendent in the development of teacher evaluation instruments, policy, and
practices.
4. Supervises and maintains the teacher evaluation process.
5. Develops and supports the teacher mentoring program.
Assessment:
1. Supervises compliance with mandated state/federal test administration.
2. Supervises the development, implementation and administration of district assessments.
3. Supervises the coordination of student demographic data necessary for state and federal revenues and
MDE compliance responsibilities
4. Supervises the maintenance, reporting, and distribution of state and local assessment test data.
5. Interprets assessment data for the Board and recommends resulting curriculum adjustments.
Accreditation and Continuous Improvement:
1. Leads principals and teacher committees to develop and implement building and district continuous
improvement planning
2. Supervises the submission and execution of the district MICIP and ensures full accreditation.
3. Supervises the completion of building level continuous improvement reporting requirements for state
accreditation and creates the district reports.
4. Supervises the completion of building level Annual Education Report requirements.
Policy Development:
1. Establishes and Disseminates the Student/Parent handbooks and published curriculum guides in
coordination with building principals and administrators.
2. Establishes and supervises compliance with instructional policy.
3. Recommends handbook changes to the Board of Education for approval.
Other duties as assigned.
SALARY: $120,000 – $125,000
