Job Description : The Communications and Community Engagement Department is seeking a Public Affairs Specialist. This position will collaborate with the Communications and Community Engagement team to amplify the value of Clean Water Services (CWS) and nurture positive experiences and healthy watershed behaviors through well-written, effective public information materials and community engagement activities.Essential Functions(The essential functions listed below are not intended to reflect all duties that may be assigned to this classification. CWS may augment duties and/or essential functions at its discretion. Additionally, some incumbents may not perform all Essential Functions.)*Propose, write and deliver compelling, targeted stories and general content for a variety of audiences and through a variety of channels including, but not limited to, utility customers and partners, business and academic community, the public, opinion leaders, regulators, media, staff and community-based organizations. Interpret technical information into easily understood messages.Help develop and edit content for website and social media, recognition/award applications, staff presentations, videos and other mediums that support the Clean Water Services brand.Represent CWS and support community engagement staff and strategy at community events, meetings, business and neighborhood events including coordinating registrations, booth/table materials, activities and attendance. Some work during evenings or weekends needed.Coordinate databases and workflow systems that help Public Affairs staff meet communications, graphics and customer service needs.Bring ideas to aid public awareness and behavior change campaigns. Work with various end users, contractors and the creative services team to ensure materials are inclusive, modern and follow CWS’ Brand and Identity and Style Guides.Aid coordination of photo and video libraries. Serve as a link between CWS and external photographers and videographers.Serve as a resource for staff, customers and stakeholders, including resolving and/or referring difficult and sensitive concerns and fulfilling requests for informational materials.Integrate equity into communications and engagement work, with an ever-evolving knowledge of best practices.Bring new ideas and solutions to CWS by continuously seeking out the latest trends and best practices in communications, marketing, public affairs and education and outreach.Work closely with creative services team who serve as technical advisors for videography, photography, graphic and UX/UI design.QualificationsKNOWLEDGE OF: *JournalismEditorial strategyPublic speakingSocial scienceCopywriting and proofreadingGeneral print and digital layout and design**SKILL IN: Serving as a copywriterPublic speakingAudience voice and content production and distributionWriting and speaking relevantly, authentically, creatively, concisely and accurately about complex subjects to inform, reassure or motivateProofreading and editingUnderstanding power and approach of good design to tell a story**ABILITY TO:Produce materials using established templates and timelinesWork occasional weeknight and weekend hours as neededUnderstand, interpret and explain pertinent policies, procedures, laws and regulations in public-friendly termsUnderstand and work in alignment with established strategic communication, public engagement, education strategy and brand plansEstablish and support effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including a variety of CWS employees, opinion leaders, community groups, vendors and the publicCollaborate, listen and appreciate diverse perspectives in a team environment; present ideas both orally and in writing to increase understanding among audiences who have varying levels of comprehension, opposition or indifference to the information being presented; organize workload and prioritize tasks to meet changing priorities and deadlinesEXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge,skills, and abilities are qualifying.
