Job Description : POSITION: Refugee Welcoming SpecialistWAGE: $42,000 – $45,000 per yearLOCATION: Based out of one of IRCO’s offices. Preferred languages include Pashto, Dari, Farsi, Arabic, Swahili, Amharic, and Rohingya.Access to personal vehicle and insurance during business hours required.GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY: For decades, IRCO has been helping refugees to find employment in Oregon. Starting in 2021, IRCO will be assisting newly arrived refugees and parolees make Oregon their new home through resettlement and placement services. Through this programming, IRCO will assist individuals and families who have fled their homes, have been granted refugee or parolee status by the US Government, and have been approved to resettle in Oregon. IRCO’s resettlement and placement services will welcome new arrivals, set them up in adequate housing, help them navigate local resources, and connect with their new communities. The program will also link them to IRCO’s hundreds of programs (including Refugee Employment Services) and to their relevant IRCO cultural center.The R&P Volunteer Coordinator/Welcoming Specialist will be responsible for a) ensuring that every arrival is greeted at the airport with a culturally appropriate meal and is transported safely to their new homes, and b) recruiting and supporting a team of volunteers to support new arrivals in their first days, weeks, and months in the US.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Manage a schedule of airport arrivals of all incoming R&P clients, and ensure that each arrival is picked up at the airport and greeted with culturally appropriate food. In some cases, the Volunteer Coordinator/Welcoming Specialist will greet the client at the airport themselves; in many cases, they will coordinate staff and volunteers to do soRecruit and support a team of volunteers to work closely with R&P Resource Navigators in meeting client needsCoordinate volunteer efforts with those of other members of the R&P team, including Resource Navigators, Housing Coordinators, and others. Convene and attend case consultations as necessaryTrain new volunteers in role-specific trainings and continue to update training materials as necessary; debrief with volunteers to assess next steps and continued program improvementsTrack Volunteer involvement and maintain required records per office and grantor requirementsSECONDARY FUNCTIONS: Work on development of meaningful service projects and activities for small groups leading toward longer-term volunteer engagementAdhere to IRCO and funder policies and proceduresAssist team members when necessary and perform other tasks as assignedJOB SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in social services, counseling, education, or related field preferred. Associate’s degree or equivalent requiredStrong knowledge of immigrant and refugee communities required. Experience working or living in multicultural and/or multilingual environments requiredSelf-starter with strong initiative, follow-through, and organizational skillsMust be able to prioritize, multi-task, and train and educate adult learners about cross-cultural relationships and dynamicsExcellent problem solving and planning abilities, and a willingness to analyze and adapt processes to better achieve objectivesAwareness and sensitivity in the delivery of client services as it relates to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the populations servedAbility to work well in team setting, as well as independently; ability to be flexible and adapt well to different dynamics in a fast-paced work environmentProficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and OutlookFlexibility to work evenings, nights, and weekends on an as needed basisMust have a valid State issued driver’s license, insurance, clean driving record and personal transportationExcellent written and oral communication skillsCommitment to IRCO mission and drive to work in partnership with vulnerable populations to achieve self-sufficiencyKNOWLEDGE: Education: Associate’s Degree (3)Experience: 1-2 years of experience is required (3)Additional Language Required: English language proficiency required, knowledge of a second language preferred.
