This position investigates and determines culpability of alleged incidents of adult abuse or neglect in the community and in facilities . These investigations will be documented in a well written investigation that must meet legal and professional standards . Situations may involve physical abuse, neglect and abandonment, sexual abuse, psychological and verbal abuse, financial exploitation, and self-neglect of adults over 65 or adults with physical disabilities.
Aging and People with Disabilities (APD), part of the Oregon Department of Human Services , is currently looking for ONE permanent, full-time dedicated and compassionate individual to provide services as an Adult Protective Service Specialist.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
This position investigates and determines culpability of alleged incidents of adult abuse or neglect in the community and in facilities . Situations may involve physical abuse, neglect and abandonment, sexual abuse, psychological and verbal abuse, financial exploitation, and self-neglect of adults over 65 or adults with physical disabilities.
WORKING CONDITIONS
May be subjected to verbal abuse and assaultive threats made by angry and hostile individuals. Occasional subpoenas and court requirements can be required on short notice. Must be able to drive to and meet individuals in their own homes, other community settings, nursing homes, hospitals or other care settings. Requires some out of town or overnight travel for training and working out-of-town cases. In rural areas, some travel may be a daily requirement. May involve driving in inclement conditions. Potential exposure to illness and disease through direct contact with clients. May be exposed to unsanitary conditions. Work closely with individuals who may have difficulty receiving, processing or verbalizing information necessary to make informed choices and decisions.

THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO QUALIFY/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor’s Degree in the human, social, behavioral or criminal sciences AND two years human service, law enforcement or investigative experience; OR
An Associate Degree in the human, social, behavioral or criminal sciences AND four years human service, law enforcement or investigative experience.

Three years professional level experience related to the position may substitute for the Bachelor’s degree; 1 8 months for an Associates.

ESSENTIAL ATTRIBUTES:
Experience interpreting and communicating decisions, laws, rules, policies and procedures.
Experience communicating with clients or members of the public who have hostile or difficult personalities.
Effectively understand and demonstrate sensitivity to diverse cultures and individuals
Ability to accurately assess individual situations carefully and make discretionary judgments and recommendations
Ability to effectively organize/prioritize work to meet pressing deadlines, and work independently as well as a member of a team using good judgment, excellent verbal/written communications, and decision making skills
Ability to learn or experience with internal computer programs (Centralized Abuse Management, ACCESS, ONE)
Successful candidates for this position will be subject to a computerized criminal history and abuse check. Adverse background information will be reviewed and could result in withdrawal of a conditional job offer or termination of employment.
