Job Description : JOB SUMMARY (overview of job): The Pathologist Assistant will provide anatomic pathology services under the clinical direction and supervision of a pathologist. Responsibilities will primarily include gross examination and dissection of complex surgical pathology specimens, conduct special procedures including tumor triage and assist with autopsies. Initiates investigations of unexpected findings dealing with specimens. Performs other duties such as Histology, IHC staining and other duties as assigned. Communicates well with general hospital and department staff. Processes frozen sections with H&E stains. Enters procedure charge codes. Manages send out samples and tracking.KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: 1 year experience in Pathology related area such as Pathology Lab Assistant, Cytology or Histology. Certification in one of these areas preferred.EDUCATION: B.S. degree in a related science field including hours and courses in biology, math, and chemistry required.Must possess clinical knowledge of physiology and anatomy. 1-2 years’ experience under the direction of a pathologist preferred.LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY:ASCP Board Certification; ORA minimum of an associate’s degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology OREducation/training equivalent to the above that includes a least (sixty) 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution. This education must include:24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR24 semester hours of science courses that includes 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination.In addition, the individual must have laboratory training including either completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, NAACLS, or other organization approved by HHS (note that this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above), ORAt least 3 months documented laboratory training in the specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.Job Type: Full-timeBenefits:401(k)401(k) matchingDental insuranceDisability insuranceHealth insuranceLife insurancePaid time offVision insuranceSchedule:8 hour shiftWork Location: One location
