Job Description : Job Purpose
The purpose of this position is to provide 24/7 emergent and non-emergent services to all of Lewis and Clark County. Public Safety Communicators (PSC) operate two-way radios, phones and various computer programs and equipment in response to police, fire, and medical emergencies, and relay critical information to emergency personnel. The Public Safety Communicator is responsible for fast, efficient and accurate receiving, dispatching and processing of calls and messages to and from various emergency personnel. PSCs provide efficient and effective customer service and support at all times. Work Schedule
During the training period (approx. 16 weeks), a successful applicant will work various shifts and rotate on a frequent basis. After the training period, an employee should anticipate being assigned to a rotating work schedule. Since the Communication Center is operational 24/7, the applicant must be willing to work weekends, holidays and all shifts. Employees will rotate shifts once every four months. Due to the demands of the profession, an employee must be available to work mandatory overtime on regularly scheduled workdays and/or outside assigned shifts. Additional hourly compensation is provided to employees working afternoon or night shifts. License and/or Certificate Requirements

Must possess a valid driver”s license with acceptable driving record at the time of hire and have the ability to obtain a valid MT driver”s license within six months of hire.

Obtain CJIN/NCIC certification (State of Montana)
Obtain Public Safety Basic Telecommunicator certification (State of Montana POST)
CPR certification (American Heart Association approved)
Emergency Medical Dispatch certification (EMD)
Minimum Qualifications
This position requires a minimum of high school graduation or equivalent, AND at least one year of employment operating computer systems and providing customer service to a diversity of individuals. Other relevant combinations of education and work experience may be evaluated on an individual basis.
A typing test showing a minimum of 45 correct words per minute is required.
This position is subject to Pre-employment, Random, Reasonable Suspicion and Post-Incident Drug & Alcohol testing. Application Special Instructions

During the screening process, applicants chosen to move forward in the process will be required to visit the 9-1-1 Communication Center and complete a pre-employment aptitude test. The aptitude test includes a typing test that requires a passing score of 45 correct WPM. The visit permits an applicant to observe the basic operations and ask questions about the job. Furthermore, the applicant must pass a criminal background check to ensure fitness to handle sensitive criminal justice information and confirm there is nothing that would prohibit un-escorted access to restricted work locations. This position is subject to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.
