Job Description : Job SummaryUnder the supervision of a Probate Court Judge or Probate Manager/Register, opens courtroom, maintains security and proper decorum in the courtroom and surrounding areas and sequesters jurors. Provides general assistance by delivering people to proper locations, entering case information into the computer, and operating court recording equipment.Primary Duties & ResponsibilitiesOpens courtroom, checking lights, heat and equipment, and ensuring its readiness for court proceedings.Determines that appropriate parties are present, notifies the judge and opens court by announcing entrance of the judge.Delivers court files for court proceedings, calls cases into court, directs parties to proper courtroom, provides court schedule information and provides proper legal forms for individuals.Maintains order in the courtroom and summons security when required to provide protection for the judge and others in the courtroom.Utilizes electronic recording equipment to record court proceedings. Prepares a log of court proceedings, including identification of speakers, notations of actions, and introduction of exhibits.Operates a computer terminal to enter case information, such as case dispositions, orders, juror payroll information, future proceeding dates and to produce hearing notices.May assist in scheduling court hearings, reviewing cases prior to hearings, and preparing orders.Performs a variety of tasks such as maintaining judicial library, ordering office supplies, copying documents, typing forms and correspondence.Screens telephone calls and refers calls to appropriate offices; provides information to callers in response to routine inquiries.Must be able to travel to hospitals and other locations to record hearings.Provides assistance to Probate Manager/Register and substitutes for other judicial and/or court staff as requiredJob QualificationsHigh School graduation or equivalent.
