Job Description : THE POSITION

The Digital Evidence Technician I performs the full scope of digital evidence work and applies knowledge and expertise to give direction and/or find solutions for questions and issues involving digital evidence. Incumbents exercise independent judgement and initiative to collect, compile and process digital evidence for E-Discovery and trial preparation. Collection activities include the review for, and requesting of, outstanding evidentiary items; as well as the receiving, inventorying, and cataloging of submitted items. Incumbents will produce copies of digital evidence for release to defense attorneys, and invoice as necessary.

The Digital Evidence Technician I gathers, tracks, and provides Electronic Discovery (E-Discovery) which includes the production of digital evidence discovery, redactions of protected and/or sensitive information found in multi-media formats, and trial preparation for a wide range of criminal cases. This position provides technical assistance to attorneys, law enforcement agencies, and defense attorneys regarding the process for uploading and downloading evidence, and other work as assigned.
Attention to detail is essential for this position and a high level of accuracy in work product is also a must for this challenging, high volume workload. This is an extremely fast paced environment and the ability to multi-task and re-prioritize work based upon ever-changing deadlines is essential. Knowledge of the legal field and criminal justice or child support systems is a plus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
High school diploma or equivalent; AND four (4) years of experience working with digital media or in a legal and/or professional office environment or clerical support role; OR
Associate’s Degree in a related field; AND two (2) years of experience working with digital media or in a legal and/or professional office environment or clerical support role; OR
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field; AND one (1) year of experience working with digital media or in a legal and/or professional office environment or clerical support role.

Must pass a comprehensive background investigation.

Selection Process:
Week of April 4, 2022: Human Resources will screen applications for the minimum qualifications as outlined above.
Week of April 11, 2022: A panel of subject matter experts will review and score submitted cover letters and responses to the supplemental questionnaire for applicants that meet minimum qualifications.
Eligible List: Candidates that successfully pass the subject matter expert review will be placed on a list of candidates eligible for interviews. Typically, the top-ranking 6 – 8 candidates are invited to participate in panel interviews.
Conditional Offer of Appointment: Human Resources will conduct a salary analysis for the top candidate and will extend a conditional offer of appointment.
Start Date: A start date will be determined after all conditions of employment have been met.

This is a non-represented position and is not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

Regular and limited duration full-time employees working 30 hours or more per week and job share employees are eligible for benefits beginning on the first of the month following employment. Job share employees are responsible for 50% of the premium. Part-time regular, variable hour, and temporary positions are not eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits.
