Job Description : GENERAL SUMMARY:

The PI Clinical Reviewer collects, analyzes, and reports clinical data elements for the Michigan Trauma Quality Improvement Program MTQIP/TQIP eligible cases as required for participation in the MTQIP/TQIP, a BCBS/Blue Care Network of Michigan funded Collaborative Quality Initiative (CQI). The chief responsibility of the Clinical Reviewer is to work collaboratively with the trauma program registry staff, clinical staff, and the trauma program manager to collect and submit reliable data to MTQIP/TQIP in a timely manner. This is accomplished through high-quality data compilation, validation, documentation, and entry into the trauma registry on all MTQIP/TQIP eligible patients. Under the supervision of the Trauma Program Manager and in collaboration with trauma registry personnel the Clinical Reviewer work to develop and implement standard practices, policies, and procedures that support effective and efficient capture of data that are valid and reliable. Employees in this role typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. Developing, overseeing and evaluating the effectiveness care throughout the continuum.
2. Assists Trauma Program Manager with development and implementation trauma and ICU education throughout the hospital.
3. The Clinical Reviewer must be on-site and interact with the clinical team through rounding, direct face-to-face contact, telephone/media, and trauma program meetings. The Clinical Reviewer is required to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement and other special projects as requested by the MTQIP/TQIP Coordinating Center.
4. Gather, abstract, enter and evaluate data in the trauma registry to assist with the performance improvement process for injured patients.
5. In addition to rounding with the clinical team the Clinical Reviewer is also responsible for initiating education in the EC, surgical floor as well as the ICU to correct deficits found during data collection or patients care.
6. The Clinical Reviewer will participate in the Trauma Quality Improvement meetings and is responsible to report all quality issues to the Trauma Program Manager.
7. The Clinical Reviewer will be actively involved in trauma research and is expected to coauthor research papers and publish.
8. Evaluate the effectiveness of the process improvement program.
9. Provide highest quality of service delivered efficiently, effectively and compassionately as outlined in our standards 100% of the time.
10. Other responsibilities include; attending consortium-wide meetings and data abstractor meetings as a representative of the institution, acting as a resource regarding the consortium within their institution, maintaining regular contact with MTQIP/TQIP surgical champion(s) and other members of the trauma team at the institution, preparing for and being available for site audits by the MTQIP/TQIP Coordinating Center, resolving data discrepancies, and responding to the MTQIP/TQIP Coordinating Center requests in a timely fashion.

8. Maintains current licensure, registration and/or certification, as applicable, at all times.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. A. Education/Training:
Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Michigan.
BSN.

B. Work Experience:
Requires a minimum of 5 years of clinical experience as a RN or equivalent (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant).
Prefer two to three years of experience in a trauma care or related setting.
Teaching and or leadership experience required.
Contact in the healthcare/safety community a plus.
Previous experience with data abstraction from medical records and/or analyzing and interpreting processes of care and clinical outcomes.

C. Certification, Licensure, Registration:
BLS certification.
ACLS preferred.

D. Other Qualifications:
Skill in use of MSOffice and trauma registry applications.
Basic graphic design principles.
Basic desktop publishing techniques.
Effectively handling multiple priorities.
Strong organizational and planning skills.
Effective time management skills.
Strong communication skills.
