Government Affairs Manager
As a member of the Government Affairs team you will:
Function as PGE’s Tribal Liaison
Build relationships with sovereign tribal nations and native communities on behalf of PGE.
Coordinate tribal outreach and engagement efforts in support of company initiatives.
Implement PGE’s Strategic Tribal Engagement Plan (STEP)
Work with tribes to identify common interests and work to further them when consistent with the company’s overall priorities and objectives.
Provide expertise and timely support to other groups within PGE on matters that involve or impact tribes or native communities.
Coordinate PGE involvement as needed in federal, state, local and community forums on matters related to tribal issues or interests.
Develop materials or training for use by PGE management and staff in building awareness of the needs and challenges faced by tribes and native communities.
Work with the Director of the Government Affairs team and internal and external stakeholders to formulate and execute company positions and strategies.
Advocate internally for application of equity lens to include Tribal communities
Serve on project committees as requested.
Establish and maintain favorable strategic relationships with state agency personnel, other utilities, customer representatives and interest groups.
Serve as a company spokesperson in appropriate forums.
Prepare reports regularly to management on status of major initiatives, agency rulemakings and similar proceedings, and activities.
Participate in other Government Affairs efforts, such as issue management at state agencies and support of legislative efforts.
Other duties as assigned, including outage coverage.
You should be someone with strong advocacy, negotiation and communication skills, and the ability to balance multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
Our ideal candidate will be someone with an excellent understanding of NW tribal nations, their history and governance, and their current priorities and challenges; experience working with tribal nations and their members; experience in developing strategic engagement plans; experience in coalition building with diverse interests to advance policy priorities; and a solid understanding of utility policy issues.
Requires a bachelor’s degree in political science, environmental science, anthropology, archeology, business or other related field or equivalent experience.
Certificate in Tribal Relations or equivalent a plus. Having a Native perspective or lived experience a plus.
Please note this is an individual contributor role with no direct reports.
