Job Description : Complete applications (application, test scores, cover letter, resume) will be accepted on a continuous basis to fill vacancies. Applicants submitting all required application materials will be contacted to schedule pre-employment testing.
ARE YOU INTERESTED IN SERVING YOUR COMMUNITY, this is a training position that will, upon successful completion of the (approximately 16 week) training period, lead to positions as both an emergency Call Taker and Dispatcher. Examples of daily work duties include receipt of emergency telephone calls; prioritization of emergency telephone calls; preparation and entry of official public safety reports in a Computer Aided Dispatch system; entry and retrieval of data from the Criminal Justice Information Network and the National Crime Information Center; radio procedure and operation in accordance with FCC regulations. The applicant must be able to think clearly in emergency situations; must have a clear, distinct voice to transmit information; must be able to sit for long periods of time; must be available for shift work; and must maintain a phone. The Billings City-County Communication Center is a 24 hour a day operation; as a result, hours and days of work will vary. Upon successful completion of the training period, working overtime will be a common and frequent occurrence and is a condition of employment.
Compensation: $17.71/hour with fast growing pay increases. Upon successful completion of the training program (approximately 16 weeks), hourly wage increases to $18.08. Current hourly wage tops out at $28.72 per hour.
Step increases are awarded annually until the highest step is achieved, additional longevity pay is earned based on years of service and COLA increases are provided based on the negotiated Union contract each July. Exceptional benefits are provided including health/life insurance, retirement plan with generous employer contributions, sick leave, 10 paid holidays per year, 2 personal days per year and 3 weeks’ vacation leave per year. Vacation accruals begin immediately, increase with longevity and are available to use after your first 6 months on the job.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED Ability to type 40 WPM without error Accurate typing-form fill & contact data entry at 97 keystrokes per minute
Required Application Materials: City of Billings Application Cover letter (preferred) Resume Typing Test 5 and the Typing-form Fill & Contact Data Entry Test, which can be completed through the Montana Job Service (406-652-3080). It is the applicant’s responsibility to send their test results to the City of Billings Human Resources. Results can be sent via email to hr@billingsmt.gov,or can be hand-delivered to Human Resources at 210 North 27th Street. Test Results must be current within 6 months.
Applicants must successfully pass pre-employment testing. An extensive criminal history background check is completed on all applicants; pre-employment drug screening is required; and remaining drug free is a condition of employment.
