Job Description : The Object Conservator will assist with the conservation of objects and collections managed by the WLCC, including large-scale and outdoor objects. The conservator will work closely with the conservation, archaeological, historic preservation, and scientific teams to conserve and maintain materials and collections under the WLCC’s care. Other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

40% – Essential – Conduct established conservation procedures including examination and treatment of objects of a variety of materials and contexts. Identify conservation problems, implement solutions under established conservation guidelines, and make recommendations for resolving difficult or unusual problems in the conservation of objects

30% – Essential – Collaborate with other staff on large scale object documentation, treatment, storage and display development activities. Organize, produce and maintain reports of treatments, updates on project status, and dissemination of conservation work.

15% – Essential – Seek out/develop new projects and collaborations and participate in grant applications and funding opportunities

10% – Essential – Participate in outreach events, and the development of teaching opportunities. Conduct tours and give lectures as assigned.

5% – Essential – Maintain laboratory upkeep and assist in the ordering of supplies, equipment and maintenance and inventory of materials

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education – Master’s Degree in the cultural heritage field
Work Exp 3+ years specialized experience in materials conservation

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

Education – Master’s Degree in Objects Conservation

RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises Student Workers only – Supervises Student workers only

No Budget Responsibilities – No fiscal responsibility for the department’s budget.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Standard Hrs: 37.5; Expected Salary Range ($ 41,800.00 – $ 52.000.00)
