Job Description : Job Summary: The Quality Manager is responsible for designing, auditing, and implementation of the Quality System for the NorthGate’s Supply Chain Services (SCS) Division production process. They also review, inspect, and improve existing packaging designs when needed. The Quality Manager is to work directly with the Senior Packaging Engineer and the customer packaging team and must understand how to utilize the customer’s packaging system. In addition, they must coordinate efforts between customer and internal resources to achieve quality metrics. Performs related work as required.RESPONSIBILITIES & AUTHORITY: Assist in the management of the complete packaging development process, including the understanding of packaging designs, prototype development, and performance testing.Audit team members in the complete packaging development process.Responsible for training Production Leads and Team Members to achieve production quality metrics.Works closely with Sr. Packaging Engineer to ensure communication is passed down appropriately for all spec changes and the supplementary training is developed and implemented.Work with internal dept. leads to ensure proper assignment of new production item numbers and production spec changes.Familiar with the ISO 9001: 2008 Standard, structure Quality System and Audits using this standard.Review and assist in facilitating approval process of the Quality System documentation.Create work instructions and associated audits when container/system become an active item.Ensure work order process including scheduling, document retention, and “package proof of events” are in adherence with customer quality process.Lead root cause analysis and develop containment procedures related to any customer quality process using 5-Why investigative reporting.Resolve all Quality issues using the Global 8D methodologies initiating with 3D containment within 48hrs of notification and submission of the 8D report to the customer. Creation of implementation plans within a 60 day period.Establish and report out on high damage claims for potential packaging specification changes aimed at reducing damage.Monitor and report out Quality Issue Management (QIM) performance metric established by customer.Review quality metrics process bottlenecks and report findings to NorthGate management team.Review and audit adherence procedures to customer packaging guidelines.Develop compliance criteria for visual inspection process for incoming bulk material.Develop implement and audit quality control measures for nonconforming or damaged customer material.Assist Sr. PE in the development and training of internal team leads on documenting and reporting damaged or nonconforming customer material in a timely manner.Preform label and work order audits and quality testing.Audit “piece buy off process” at all stages of label validation process.Monitor and report out Quality Issue Management (QIM) performance metric established by customer.Train with Sr. PE to understand the creation of new CAD drawings, Bill of Materials, and work instructions to accompany any spec revisions that may take place throughout life cycle of a product on all production units.Must learn and become proficient in the Global Service Parts Packaging System (GSPPS).Review, understand and follow the requirements of individual Package Material Specifications.Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.Assist with training of the Team Leads and production workers.Evaluate recommended efficiency tools and test methods to develop and validate packaging designs and processes.Work with the manufacturing department to ensure that the packaging designs are optimized for manufacturability.Monitor development and implementation of the first version of new model part packaging specifications.Understand and follow all policies and requirements detailed in customers Packaging and Shipping Guide.Attend customer onsite monthly quality meetings, and packaging engineering meetings, as directed by Sr PE.Learn internal systems including AutoCad .dxf 2D packaging, the Artios Cad program, Great Plains ERP, FASCOR WMS, Bartender Label software and understand how they interact with production processes.JOB EXPERIENCE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Position requires computer skills to include Microsoft Excel and Word, Great Plains Dynamics, drawing programs, email, and internet capabilities.Employee should be detail oriented, have problem solving abilities, understand the products and industry and participate actively in reviewing product in our facilities.Candidates with extensive experience in the packaging industry preferred.Experience in engineering discipline required.Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and 5 years of direct experience in the quality control field.Education Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and 5 years of direct experience in the quality control field.Physical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
