LOCATION SUMMARY
The Snowcrest Ranch is a 38,705-acre property located in the mountain foothills of Southwest Montana in the upper Ruby River Valley. Recreational opportunity and wildlife are abundant. The ranch raises genetically unique Castle Rock bison and grazes around 1,200-1,400 head. The grazing is very progressive including Adaptive Grazing, rest rotation, and Holistic Management practices. Bison handling is frequent, and the crew strives to be stockmen and grass managers first and foremost. The ranch ecosystem is diverse including 22 miles of sinuous river weaving through the lowlands and the Snowcrest mountains at over 10,000’ in elevation within the operational ranch boundaries. The ranch headquarters is located 19 miles from the nearest town with a K-6 school, post office and gas station (Alder). K-12 school and groceries are 29 miles (Sheridan). ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position incorporates cutting edge grazing practices and a high interest in stockmanship. Employee will be involved in the Adaptive Grazing systems under sprinkler and flood irrigation. The employee will also be involved in operation and maintenance of the ranch farm and construction equipment. Temporary electric fence as well as new fence construction and maintenance are frequent tasks for the employee. Irrigation practices include sprinkler (center pivot), flood and gated pipe. Ability and skills to use horses and ATVs to perform ranch work including moving bison is required.
As a Ranch Technician, the job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Develop and maintain ranch buildings, fences, corrals, and water sources.
Move and handle bison in the pasture and corral.
Perform general ranch work.
Use chemicals to assist with weed control.
Watch for fires during storms /fight fires in the event of one.
Vaccinate livestock by placing vaccine in drinking water or feed or using syringes and hypodermic needles.
Safely operate and maintain vehicles, tractors, and heavy equipment with various attachments.
Safely operate ATVs, UTVs and Snowmobiles.
Participate in ranch safety programs.
Use of welder, plasma cutter, cutting torch and shop equipment.
Handle range monitoring and grazing planning.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
A high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Livestock care and familiarity with low-stress handling experience is highly preferred. Heavy equipment operation experience may include but not limited to tractor, backhoe, dump truck, and dozer. ATV/UTV/Snowmobile experience is highly preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
The candidate must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. The candidate must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
The candidate must have the ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. The candidate must have the ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
The candidate must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
If position requires operation of a vehicle, the candidate must possess a valid Driver’s License or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment. The candidate’s driving record must meet the standards and requirements of the Company and the Company’s insurance carrier.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
The employee must adhere to Company and Ranch policies and procedures, which are included in the Company’s Employee Handbook.
The employee must present documentation establishing both identity and employment authorization within three days of hire, pursuant to federal law.
The candidate may be subject to undergo pre-employment drug test, (after offer is given but before applicant has commenced work). Random drug tests are given throughout the year.
The employee must have a personal vehicle to travel from ranch location to local town for personal needs.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to perform physical labor for extended periods of time.
