The Michigan House Democratic Caucus is seeking a highly experienced and effective social media coordinator to join its communications department and create effective digital communications for the Caucus and its members.
The social media coordinator will primarily develop and implement strategic and proactive social media programs and campaigns that provide consistent, effective communications for Caucus members, constituents, stakeholders, the general public and journalists.
As a social media coordinator, you’ll create content that shares our story and vision, promotes our values and priorities, and makes an impact across many different social and digital platforms.
Job Responsibilities:
Compile and report weekly social media analytics and trend data
Assist in the development and implementation of the daily social media strategy for the Democratic House Caucus
Work alongside the writing, digital media and photo/video team to create effective, engaging and on-message content
Increase social media audience and engagement and drive traffic to caucus websites
Identify opportunities to share the Caucus’ message with new, wider audiences
Live tweet events, including press conferences and policy rollouts
Develop creative branding for the Caucus, including hashtags
Serve as a resource and sounding board for representatives looking to increase social media traffic
Required Education and Experience
Minimum Requirements:
Minimum of three to five years of progressive social media communications experience with direct ability to write engaging content, produce video, graphic, social and interactive content.
Intermediate knowledge of Hootsuite, Adobe Creative Cloud or Canva, Facebook boosting and advertising, Zoom, Facebook Live and other such virtual platforms.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in communication, public relations, journalism, marketing or another related field.
Proven experience with digital content strategy, planning, messaging and creation for a broad spectrum of audiences, topics and channels.
Ability to excel and manage shifting priorities under tight deadlines in a complex and fast-paced environment and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders within a matrixed organization. Consistently meets established deadlines and uses time effectively while managing multiple, simultaneous projects.
Exceptional communication (writing, verbal, nonverbal, graphic, digital and social) capabilities with excellent interpersonal, presentation, public speaking, negotiation, advocacy and persuasion skills. Excellent team player and collaborator.
Preferred Requirements:
Strong communications acumen and knowledge of the digital landscape and an ability to translate trends into communication opportunities.
Strong understanding of video, social media, including influencer marketing and the intersection with traditional media and public opinion.
Prior political, public affairs or campaign experience.

WORK LOCATION:
This position is based in Lansing, Michigan, reports to the Creative Director and provides the opportunity to engage directly with policymakers, influencers and key leaders in the government, nonprofit, community, civic and nonprofit sectors throughout the state and across the country.
