Position : Drawbridge Operator Helper
Job Description : Operator Helper does the lubrication, maintenance and adjustments on the bridge and all related appurtenances as assigned under the supervision of the chief operator and relieves the operators as needed
Accountabilities
Lubricate, maintain and adjust bridge and related appurtenances as assigned
Develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors and/or customers and effectively handle conflict situations
Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications
Required
Computer literate and have basic keyboarding computer skills
Proficient mechanical experience
Proficient verbal communication skills
Ability to speak English in a clear, concise manner to communicate with coworker(s) and supervisor(s)
Experience effectively operating the following: power hand tools
Valid driver’s license
Able to swim
Experience reading and understanding instructions (examples may include: operating and safety rules, bulletins, special instructions, and federal regulatory documents)
Preferred
Basic computer skills
Able to read and interpret blueprints and CAD/CAM
Physical Requirements
Able to perform physically strenuous work
Work Conditions
Work Conditions: Work at heights minimum of 15 feet, maximum of 80 feet
Willingness to work outside regardless of weather conditions
Agree to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, and hearing protection where the company requires
Willingness to practice safe work habits
18 years of age or older
Authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship
Union Pacific operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This job may be required to work various shifts, overtime, holidays and weekends based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement
Work Conditions: Must not be afraid of heights, as they will be working at elevations over 12 feet above the ground
Must be willing and able to work around large equipment such as railcars, locomotives and cranes
Agree to continuously staff work station except for brief, occasional breaks

To the extent required by federal law and/or collective bargaining agreement, membership to the respective labor union is required. The union agreement dictates the pay rate and cannot be individually negotiated. Monthly dues are the responsibility of the employee.
