Hourly Rate: $23.4983
$25.4166 after successful probationary period
Career Ladder Position: The qualified candidate will be placed in the appropriate step based on their prior experience and ability to meet the listed requirements.
Job Status: Regular Full-Time; Non-exempt; Non-union

Job Overview:
The Utility Serviceperson performs installation, maintenance, inspections, a repair of water utility system infrastructure to ensure compliance with plans, construction codes, safety, and state regulations and ordinances.
Duties are performed outdoors with exposure to changing weather conditions and exposure to loud noise, working in confined spaces and high-traffic areas. Job duties require occasional lifting or moving of objects weighing 50 pounds.

Core duties and responsibilities to include:
Perform duties relating to the operation and maintenance of the water facility such as valve turning, hydrant inspection, hydrant flow testing, hydrant maintenance, system flushing, new service tap installation, main leak repairs, leak correlation and walk-through inspections.
Ensure compliance with plans, traffic safety regulations and construction codes, including appropriate depths, elevations, pressures, construction methods and materials for modifications to work plans.
Install water taps, repair and replace water mains, operate and inspect main valves and fire hydrants, locate and mark City utilities.
Answer questions on code requirements and construction methods.
Read, review and interpret utility construction plans for adherence to water quality standards and compatibility with existing systems.

Requirements for this job include:
Two years experience as a water operator or other utility experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Verified acceptable driving record; and ability to obtain Montana Driver License within 30 days of hire
Water Operator Certification within three (3) years of hire
Must be able to work on-call shifts and overtime as required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of relevant OSHA rules, Municipal Water regulations, and utility safe work practices of the City of Missoula
Knowledge of traffic safety regulations and construction codes, including appropriate depths, elevations, pressures, construction methods, and materials for modifications to work plan
Knowledge of personal computers/phones, Microsoft Office Suite, Computer-Aided drafting, and Global Positioning System (GPS)/Geographic Information System (GIS) software to review, update records, and respond to public inquiries
Skilled in utility construction methods, practices, and techniques to identify and correct possible violations and defects
Skilled in understanding and interpreting laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate with diverse individuals and groups, including the public, private contractors, and outside utility companies
