Position Summary: The Accountant I is responsible for assisting with monthly, quarterly and year-end full cycle financial close with focus on P&L accounts; reconciliations of general ledger accounts including contributions, accounts receivable, accounts payable, deferrals, prepaid and investments; and assist in preparation of monthly financial statements.
The Accountant I performs these duties with precision and in a manner that is professional. Communications are clear to internal and external customers. Duties may change with or without notice and the Accountant I must adjust the activities to reflect these changes.
Compensation: $47,100 – $62,813/year (Depends on Experience and/or Certifications). This is a full-time position with excellent benefits! Benefits package includes medical, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, short and long-term disability insurance, 403(b) with automatic 5.5% contribution after 18-months regardless of employee participation, flexible spending account, employee assistance program, and other voluntary benefits and discounts. Generous paid time off plan includes 15 days in the first year, 23 days in the second year, and 26 days in the third year.
Education, Training and Experience:
Bachelors degree in accounting preferred or two years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree.
Advanced proficiency in Excel, including lookup functions, pivot tables, logical functions such as if and sumifs, data filters, text functions, charting, and data mining.
Strong understanding of GAAP, including debit and credit entries, cash and accrual basis accounting, financial statements and presentations, and internal control standards.
Practical work experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and accounting and financial reporting software, such as including Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains.
Competencies:
Strong organizational skills; a self-starter; and able to document accounting work papers clearly and professionally.
Detail oriented, reliable, and ability to complete work accurately and timely.
Able to handle and prioritize multiple concurrent projects with competing deadlines.
Able to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
Excellent interpersonal skills. Able to coordinate and communicate work-related activities to a diverse audience, including people from different professional backgrounds.

Successfully pass a background check.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare monthly general ledger journal entries.
Reconcile general ledger accounts to subsidiary schedules and other supporting documentation.
Maintain, monitor, and follow up on accounts receivable.
Produce the financial statements, trail balances and spreadsheet reports in accordance with the guide Financial Statement Production Instructions and other regular monthly reports.
Ensure the accuracy and timely completion of monthly financial statements, accounts receivable and banking transactions. Backup other accounting areas, including payroll, accounts payable, and other accounting functions as assigned.
Coordinate contribution information with Development team.
Coordinate annual equipment inventory and reconcile to fixed asset records.
Other Responsibilities:
Assist in assembling accounting materials for outside parties.
Participate in audits, outside agency reviews and other projects.
Perform additional tasks assigned by supervisor.
Work Environment: This position typically works in an office environment. Due to COVID-19, this position is currently working remote, with the possibility of returning to the office environment, full-time, or alternating office and remote work. This is based on operational needs and guidance from State and local officials. While this position is currently remote, the employee will need to reside in the Portland metro area by date of hire.
Schedule: Full-time, Monday – Friday. Additional hours as needed.
