Job Description : Job Title: HOMELESS SHELTER MONITOREmployment Type: TemporaryLocation: Wyandotte, MIHours: 40Start Date: 06/25/2020End Date: 05/30/2022FLSA: Non-ExemptGrade: 1Reporting to: Shelter ManagerScope:The Homeless Shelter Monitor is responsible for monitoring the activities of the program participants to ensure compliance with evening and nighttime program guidelines and policies. In coordination with shelter security, he/she is also responsible for ensuring the safety of residents.Essential Functions:· Coordinate with the Security Guard to ensure a safe and secure facility during shift hours.· Ensure safety of residents and staff in fire and other emergencies.· Follow appropriate critical incident protocol and accompanying documentation· Provide an accurate written record of emergent events and forward any concerns to the daytime Program Manager.· Ensure residents’ compliance with agency policy and program rules.· Monitor residential areas, is visible and interacts with shelter residents as needed.· Assist program participants, as needed, within program guidelines.· Perform bed checks and routine safety and fire checks.· Maintain a positive attitude towards assigned work, program participants, and staff, and have a willingness to work with others.· Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro’s policies and procedures.· Other duties as assigned.Physical Requirements and Work EnvironmentShelter Monitor: The physical requirements described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties. The ability to safely operate a motor vehicle to transport oneself and program supplies as necessary. The physical ability to travel to assigned locations, stand, stoop, bend, reach, pull, push, lift, grasp, climb, talk, see, hear and perform basic and light home maintenance activities, and operate office equipment. The physical ability to move and lift light objects up to 30 pounds such as mail, supplies, files, and equipment. The ability to operate office equipment requiring continuous or repetitive hand/arm movements. The ability to remain in a sitting position for extended periods of time.Minimum Qualifications:· High School Diploma. Experience in Homeless Services and/or Shelter preferred.Minimum Competencies:· Working knowledge of basic internet applications and programs including Google technology and Microsoft Office Word and Excel. The ability to learn and utilize the necessary programs for this position.· Ability to communicate effectively both verbal and in written form.· Good interpersonal and professional skills including but not limited to professional appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability.· Ability to provide services for those persons facing economic, social, health, age, and educational barriers.· Ability to work independently or in a team environment (as deemed necessary).· Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro policies and procedures.Licensing and Other Requirements:· Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.Travel Requirements:· Ability to travel to various sites.Work Hours:Work to be scheduled Monday through Sunday with specific shifts including: daytime, evening and overnight to be determined by program needs.Other Duties:Please note that this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
