What you will do!

A Food Service Worker performs a variety of food service activities at the Oregon State Hospital Campus. Service activities include setting up condiments and panning food, food portioning, preparing food trays, serving on food lines, clearing and cleaning dining and serving areas, putting away stock and kitchenettes, and washing dishes, pots, and pans in a volume dining or food service facility.
Employees ensure the various dietary needs of clients, patients, students, and inmates are met to adhere to specific nutritional requirements and dietary needs. Employees monitor and review prescribed dietary orders. Follows portion control guidelines.

Direction : Assist with serving. Train patients and inmates in the methods and procedures of food preparing, serving, distributing, and cleaning in a dining or food service facility. Check work to ensure conformance with sanitation, safety standards, and work habits.
Food Service Preparation : Prepare simple foods and beverages according to standardized menus, prescribed dietary menus, and recipes. Ensure appropriate portions, textures, and dietary needs of each client are met. Ensure timely food preparation, service, and delivery. Prepare food items and special dietary snacks. Adjust quantities to eliminate excessive waste of food products. Use various types of commercial kitchen equipment such as fryers, ovens, mixers, slicers, choppers, and espresso machines. Prepare simple desserts. Slice and wrap bread and other baked items. Check for proper temperature of foods. Observe food to be sure it is visually appealing.
Food Service Activities : Maintain adequate supplies for the serving line. Ensure that food pans are set-up and refilled. Serve food items on the serving line. Portion food items according to each prescribed diet orders. Check diet change sheets for modifications to individual diets. Sets-up and refill condiments, dispensers, and food pans. May be assigned the role of checking trays to be sure staff members accurately follow diet orders. Cater activities and events. Follow safety protocol for kitchen utensils. Monitor and operate the cash register.
Cleaning and Maintenance Activities : Clean all work areas, surfaces, equipment, and utensils. Maintains required chemical storage, use, and handling. Store all cooking and serving utensils accordingly. Follows standardized waste procedures. Ensure proper equipment maintenance by checking the general operation and efficiency of kitchen equipment and contacting service representative when equipment needs repair.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
One year of experience in a commercial food service facility; Must have Food Handler’s Card or be able to obtain within one (1) week of appointment.
Basic knowledge of arithmetic
Skill in proper use of materials and equipment used in a volume dining or food service facility
Ability to follow and apply food service policies and procedures
Ability to learn and follow therapeutic diets
Ability to communicate orally with other staff, residents, students and the public
Ability to handle and use chemical cleaners safely
Experience in creating and maintaining a work environment that is respectful and accepting of diversity among team members and the people we serve.
