Position : Power and Water Helper

Job Description : This position will receive practical training in and learn the basics of power plant and related systems, subsystems, equipment and facilities maintenance and operations. The position will also assist in performing minor maintenance and greasing, and work as helper on other maintenance and overhaul work. This position will also maintain compliance records, maintain and inventory personal protective equipment, and make accurate entries in logs and reports.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Completion of a high school education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be able to pass a Mechanical Aptitude/Hands-On Assessment with emphasis in heavy equipment, factory maintenance and/or mechanic environment.
Frequent lifting of 26 to 75 pounds with occasional lifting over 75 pounds.
Provides own hand tools.
Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license where needed to perform duties of the position; must be able to drive of University vehicle to perform job duties of this classification.

Desired Qualifications

Experience with mechanical systems; experience working in a power plant setting. This position requires, or will require prior to the completion of the probationary period: knowledge of basic personal computer terminology and operations, and the ability to use e-mail and the Internet.

A creative and innovative lifelong learner with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population; able to problem solve within a collaborative team environment; ability to understand different perspectives while utilizing expert knowledge of the technical operations of the job.

Work Hours

6:30am – 3:00pm, Monday through Friday and may require after-hours, weekend and holiday work.
