WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
A self-starter, flexible problem solver and outstanding communicator to join our NIKE Trademark & Design team as a Paralegal. In this role, you will play a meaningful role in building and protecting one of the world’s most recognizable and inspirational brands. To be successful, you must be who is comfortable working cross functionally and influencing different personalities and perspectives.
WHAT WILL YOU WORK ON?
As our Trademark Paralegal you will provide Nike’s Global Trademark & Design team with a wide range of support. You will work with Attorneys and Paralegals to timely lead and finalize trademark correspondence to meet filing requirements. You will also work with assigned category teams to provide trademark clearance and consultation overseen by the Attorney and Sr. Trademark Paralegal team members. You will coordinate sending trademark documentation and other materials to outside counsel and our Business partners as needed.
You will assist in managing the NIKE, and CONVERSE global trademark, copyright, and domain name portfolio and be part of a successful, collaborative team. Together with your paralegal colleagues and partnering trademark attorneys, the Trademark Paralegal will:
Develop new or existing trademark clearance, prosecution, and conflict abilities; working on assigned business category requests.
Develop skills to provide domestic and foreign trademark prosecution support to attorneys,
paralegals, and internal and external Nike, Inc. contacts to ensure efficient work flow and quality work product.
Assist with the management and maintenance of our Anaqua Trademark Application/Conflicts module, run reports as instructed, and look for ways to enhance the tool.
Assist with capturing relevant evidence in connection with key defensive and offensive filings with global trademark offices.
Work with attorneys and paralegals to identify, gather, and maintain an organized web-based repository of Nike, Inc.’s IP evidence to be used for complex trademark application, conflict, and fame filings.
Work with our internal team and coordinating counsel on the review and finalization of trademark signature pages for filing with domestic and foreign Trademark Offices (e.g. Powers of Attorney, Affidavits, Certificates of Incorporation).
Assist with Trademark docketing responsibilities; issue timely docket reports on a regular cadence; review and apply docket updates from attorneys and paralegals; provide reminder reports to attorneys and paralegals on upcoming deadlines; analyze and address docketing discrepancies as needed.
Offer support for miscellaneous client-related Trademark projects and perform special tasks as needed, which may include learning specific new computer applications and/or workflows. Assistance on special projects with all team members as needed.
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH?
This role is located at our Beaverton World Headquarters. Together with your paralegal colleagues and partnering trademark attorneys, you will work with business groups across all of Nike.
WHAT YOU BRING TO NIKE?
Bachelor’s degree or higher or equivalent combination of education and experience and training;
One to three years of relevant experience is preferred;
Advanced level proficiency with Word/Outlook/Excel/PowerPoint a must;
Working knowledge of TM Docketing software, Serengeti billing system, and/or Nike systems (PDM, PPS, Mapper, SAP) a plus;
Must be detail oriented, accurate, and have the ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment;
Required to maintain integrity when interacting with all levels of the Nike organization, Business clients, and outside counsel;
Proven work ethic with the ability to multitask in a fast paced environment;
Highly motivated with superior analytical and organizational ability;
Strong verbal and written communication skills;
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, and use discretion in dissemination of information;
Must anticipate needs, be proactive, and take initiative in seeing tasks to completion;
Advanced ability to network and creatively use internal and external resources;
Flexibility when handling multiple projects required;
Must be approachable with a positive demeanor;
Oregon Notary Public or willingness to become one.
