Job Description : The City of East Lansing is seeking to hire a Human Resources Administrator. East Lansing, home to Michigan State University, is a dynamic community of nearly 49,000 people, operates under the Council-Manager form of government with a full-time and part-time regular staff of 326 and 200 part-time temporary/seasonal employees. This is a professional position within the Department of Human Resources. This position will report to the Department Director and will include a wide variety of human resources functions and initiatives.
The successful candidate provides internal support to all operating departments. Responsibilities of the position include: provide management guidance on issues related to labor relations, including discipline and discharge; conduct investigations related to employee issues and/or complaints; ensure compliance with State & Federal employment mandates; assist in coordinating and handling labor issues related to employee relations and grievances; participate as member of management’s bargaining team; coordinate employee safety and training initiatives; provide support to the employment/recruitment process; provide support to compensation and benefits programs, as well as other Human Resources functions; provide coordinate, attend and support assigned City Commission meetings.

Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field is required for the position, supplemented with at least three years of progressively responsible experience in human resources; professional human resources certification or a Master’s degree in Human Resources is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and have experience working in a public sector and/or unionized environment.
