How you’ll make an impact:
We’re looking for a Music Analyst to help us continue developing the most detailed music catalog annotation project ever undertaken – the Music Genome Project. The Music Analysis team is an exceptionally talented group of people with diverse expertise in various music genres. Each one has a background in the performance, recording, composition and/or production of music. Music Analysts are chiefly tasked with performing Pandora’s proprietary musicological analysis on song recordings, as well as a more general artist-level analysis.

What you’ll do:
Evaluate a large spectrum of detailed musical characteristics at the song level.
Succinctly express the most prominent aspects of an artist’s career and body of work.
What you’ll need:
You are a musician and be able to demonstrate knowledge equivalent to a 4 year music degree, including the ability to identify time signatures, chord qualities, melodic intervals, formal structure, etc. by ear.
Broad general knowledge of many music genres, both current and historical.
Knowledgeable about one or more particular music genres – musical, historical and cultural elements thereof.
Basic computer skills (Mac)
Specialization in Rap, Latin music, or Middle Eastern music
Fluency in a second language, esp. Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Hindi
Minimum 35 hours/week commitment
Music Theory proficiency equivalent to 4 semesters of study, including:
Transcribe melodies & evaluate the harmonic structure of a song
Determine instrumentation & timbres of a song
Accurately characterize metric and formal structures
Broad knowledge of music Genres from different eras
Familiarity with very current trends in mainstream pop
Versatility to be able to objectively evaluate music outside your own taste
Must have legal right to work in the U.S.
