Job Description:
Remote work or a hybrid of remote/office will be considered in filling this position. The ability to report to Salem is required when business or operational needs are dependent on onsite activities, generally a few times a month.

We are seeking an Administrative Specialist 2 to join our team in our Salem Office of the Oregon Department of Education . This is a full-time, limited duration position scheduled to end August 31, 2024, however it may be extending pending fiscal approval. Limited duration positions are eligible for full benefits.

The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) oversees the education of over 560,000 students in Oregon’s public K-12 education system. ODE encompasses early learning, public preschool programs, the state School for the Deaf, regional programs for children with disabilities, and education programs in Oregon youth corrections facilities. While ODE isn’t in the classroom directly providing services, the agency (along with the State Board) – focuses on helping districts achieve both local and statewide goals and priorities through strategies such as:

What you will do !
As our Administrative Specialist, you serve as the key support in the implementation of the Strengthening Mental Health in Education SMHiE 2.0 Initiative, and be an important member of the Mental Health in Education team. The team is committed to implementing strengths-based, trauma- and SEL-informed, equity-centered mental and behavioral health prevention and promotion strategies for Oregon’s public school system. The initiative involves: 1. Developing and implementing a mental health literacy program; 2. Developing, designing and implementing a mental health credentialing program; and 3. Developing policies and procedures to support the Community Care and Connection (Triple C) Pilot Project. This person is in the Office of the Director, and collaborates with the Senior Mental Health Officer and Mental Health in Education project team.

What are we looking for?
Candidates who are the most competitive will possess the following background, skills and experience:
A minimum of two years of experience as an administrative specialist or executive support specialist which included administrative support for a project, program, or operation. Administrative support includes those duties beyond clerical/secretarial such as: interpretation of laws, rules, and regulations; administrative data collection and analysis; and evaluation of projects, processes, and operations; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. One year of postsecondary education may be substituted for up to one year of the experience.
Must be proficient with database, spreadsheet, word processing software, Google documents and file organization. Preferably web page design experience.
Demonstrated ability to professionally and effectively communicate orally and in writing with a variety of audiences, answering questions and explaining technical information .
Demonstrated ability to respond to highly sensitive requests and communications, and maintain confidentiality.
Education or experience in writing, researching, interpreting and applying statutes, rules and policies
Ability to work independently and with multiple deadlines, continual change, and heavy workloads.
Ability to accurately complete detailed work.

Salary Range: The range listed is the Non-PERS salary range. Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) participating members will have their base salary increased by 6.95% and pay a 6% employee contribution to PERS.
