Job Description : Position Summary
The Park Seasonal Worker II – Trails & Volunteers assists with minor repair and maintenance of the City parks grounds and facilities. This position provides routine trail maintenance including hazard identification, vegetation removal, and resurfacing as well as assisting with our system wide volunteer group projects in multiple areas. These tasks are illustrative only and may include other related duties.

At Parks and Recreation, our mission is to preserve and create a community heritage by providing places and programs designed to enhance the quality of life.

The Parks Operations Division of Corvallis’ Parks and Recreation Department cares for over 2000 acres of parks, play grounds, playing fields, trails, open spaces and beautification areas.
Essential Functions
Seasonal Park Worker II performs some or all of the following essential functions depending on assigned area.
Assists with landscape area maintenance and tree care.
Assists in maintenance, construction and repairs to Parks and Recreation buildings. Performs custodial tasks, posts reservations at shelters, painting, plumbing and carpentry.
Assists in irrigation, turf maintenance, and minor equipment maintenance within the Parks system.
Assists with seasonal and daily preparation of sports facilities for use.
Assists with maintenance and repairs to Park facilities including playgrounds, drinking fountains, picnic tables, benches, paths and trails, roads, parking lots, and associated park amenities.
Assists with festivals and special events.
Assists with other Parks maintenance duties as assigned.
Conforms with all safety rules and performs work is a safe manner.

Delivers excellent customer service to diverse audiences.

Maintains effective work relationships.

Adheres with all City and Department policies.

Arrives to work, meetings, and other work-related functions on time and maintains regular job attendance.

Operates and drives a motor vehicle safely and legally. Operates, repairs, fabricates, and modifies a large variety of equipment, including power tools, survey equipment, and line locating devices.

Qualifications and Skills
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent required and a combination of education, training or experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instruction and to exchange routine information. Basic understanding of simple work processes, methods or equipment.

Ability to learn required physical skills, that must be performed in the course of regular work routines that can be learned on the job over a relatively short period of time.

Ability to use ordinary conversational skills and courtesy to exchange routine information and provide routine assistance.

Ability to learn job-related information and techniques.

Ability to work in a team-oriented environment, but also work alone at a work-site, under supervisory direction while performing duties thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with Department policy.

Ability to get along well and maintain effective work relationships with others, including coworkers and the public.

Special Requirements
Ability to safely learn to operate a variety of equipment. Limited use of chainsaws, weed-eaters, tractors, loaders, trucks and trucks with trailers, hand and power tools, and various mowing equipment, under direct supervision.

Possession or ability to obtain and maintain a valid Oregon Drivers License.

Ability to pass a pre-employment background and/or criminal history check.
