Job Description : DescriptionUnder the close supervision of the Regional Manager II, performs general clerical duties such as shelving, and shelf reading.Duties and ResponsibilitiesShelve and shelf-read all library materials.Move large quantities of materials from place to place for purposes of preparing to shelve or to shelve.Scan and pull materials to ensure the accuracy of the ILS database.Place materials in alphabetical order for shelving while ensuring accurate and well organized shelves of material for patrons to peruse.Check books, periodicals, audio visual equipment, and other library material for damage.May perform other duties as assigned.Job RequirementsPrevious experience working in a library setting desired.Physical agility to push/pull fully loaded book carts/trucks weighing up to 150 pounds, retrieve or place materials above shoulder or below knee level, and lift/carry materials/furniture weighing up to 40 pounds.Ability to perform physically demanding repetitive tasks quickly and accurately.Ability to follow oral and written directions.Ability to learn library book shelving system and sort/file materials alphabetically.Communication skills necessary to deal with the public in a courteous and cooperative manner as necessary. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.Access to reliable transportation.Ability to work under close supervision and follow well established routines.Visual acuity required to accurately read written materials.Depth perception required for shelving materials.Additional InformationKDL provides library services to our local communities seven days per week.Position will require some evening and/or weekend hours.The schedule posted for this role is: M 8:30-3:30, Th 1:15-8:15, F 8:30-3:30; Every Fourth Week Starting May 7: Th 3:45-8:15, F 8:30-1:00, Sa 8:45-5:15, Su 12:45-5:15; Sundays off in the summerWhile this position is currently assigned to the above location, KDL reserves the right to require employees to be available for assignments at any KDL location.Kent District Library is recognized as one of the Best & Brightest Companies to Work for in West Michigan 2019.
