About the Department of Communities and Justice
The Department of Communities and Justice carries out an important purpose across many areas of work, particularly when it comes to improving outcomes for children and young people, Aboriginal people, people with disability, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people experiencing domestic and family violence, victims of sexual assault, young and adult offenders, people at high risk of reoffending, and people experiencing homelessness.
Working together for stronger communities means we can continue to deliver our services with a more unified and collaborative approach. This means a greater focus on prevention and early intervention, faster responses, more seamless operations, less duplication of effort and better outcomes.
About the Deputy Secretary, Courts, Tribunals and Service Delivery role
The Deputy Secretary, Courts, Tribunals and Service Delivery will be leading the organisation and administration of the Division, including oversight of significant reform programs, and working closely with key legal stakeholders and the judiciary for the effective and efficient operation of court and tribunal services.
The role requires an understanding of the complexities of the justice system and the critical role of courts and tribunals in that system; an ability to develop constructive working relationships with heads of jurisdiction that respect and preserve the doctrine of the separation of powers.
The role will be responsible for: leading and directing the development and implementation of an improved business and operating model to facilitate the delivery of a range of client-based court and tribunal services and programs across NSW; driving the significant transformation program within Courts, Tribunals and Service Delivery to ensure regulatory and legislative frameworks are applied consistently; and significantly contributing to the development of an integrated, accessible, and effective criminal and civil justice system.
Key accountabilities of the Deputy Secretary, Courts, Tribunals and Service Delivery role include (but are not limited to):
Develop strategic and innovative plans and strategies to ensure the Division meets organisational and government objectives, whilst implementing a sustainable, customer-focused court and tribunal system that can meet the needs of justice into the future.
Oversee the development, implementation and delivery of major reform and capability programs, and leverage interconnections between Stronger Communities Cluster and external agencies, to maximise overall transformation outcomes within desired timeframes.
Contribute to organisational and cross-cluster governance and policy to ensure regulatory and legislative frameworks are applied consistently and effectively.
Develop Courts and Tribunal information and data capability that can contribute to the efficient operation of Courts and Tribunals and input to the broader justice system data & analytics.
Deliver high level advice to the Secretary and the Minister on complex divisional strategies, policy, plans and emerging issues affecting the organisation and/or government to contribute to effective decision making.
Build and maintain collaborative relationships with clients and key stakeholders to support innovative change and manage emerging issues that impact the community and influence organisational and government objectives.
Lead, direct and develop an effective and cohesive team and efficiently allocate resources to ensure quality, timely and appropriate services are provided to stakeholders in line with the department’s goals and objectives.
Drive effective budgeting for business planning, program evaluation frameworks and Courts and Tribunal Services reform objectives.
