We are looking for a dynamic and commercially aware Project Controller with a proven track record in project delivery and project controls to join our growing engineering services business.

Mission Systems is transforming and we need you to support our drive for growth, supporting our teams through exciting and sometimes challenging situations. You’ll be one of our Project Controller, delivering a portfolio of medium and high complexity projects and work packages across a number of engineering contracts and disciplines. Your will be responsible for the timely and cost-effective delivery of products and services to our customers.

You’ll play a key role in growing our contracts and building strong customer relationships. You’ll drive growth and the role will bring bags of responsibility and the opportunity to work at the front of delivering some key UK Defence and Security contracts. Your responsibilities will include:

Working as a key member of the Prime Contract Office (PCO) which provides end-to-end delivery of all contract tasking and projects, you’ll report to a Senior Project Manager.Project management of a portfolio of engineering projects and work packages ensuring that delivery teams understand cost, time and quality requirements and remain coordinated in their approach to delivering agreed scopes of work.Providing end-to-end delivery throughout the project lifecycle, you’ll also be responsible for supporting with requirements capture, scoping, technical and commercial solutions and the generation of pricing models, gate review and proposal documentation.Providing effective operational risk management to ensure that the business’ risk exposure is kept to a minimum and is effectively managed throughout the project.Ensuring that effective change management is applied to projects, balancing flexibility to changing customer requirements with the need for robust commercial agreements.Defining acceptance criteria for contracted deliverables and production of professional handover documentation to ensure timely close-out of milestones and projects as well as technical handover to our operational teams.Identifying, reviewing and applying lessons learnt as part of continuous improvement for future requirements.Reviewing and presentation of management information including regular finance reviews and Project Boards to ensure effective internal stakeholder management and stringent financial management.Ensuring adherence to Babcock standard project management methodology, APM and best practice within the project management profession.The regular updating of the Jira tasking programme used by the PCO to ensure that task workflows are appropriately managed and key updates are communicated with customer stakeholders.Supporting and deputising for Senior/Project Managers, as required.

What do I need to do the role?

We are looking for a high calibre Project Controller with demonstrable expertise in the delivery of engineering requirements. Commercially and financially astute with great organisational and planning skills, you will be able to interact confidently with senior leaders and stakeholders, utilising your strong communication skills to build effective relationships. Most importantly, your motivation, drive and passion for managing and delivering successful outcomes will motivate your colleagues and delight our customers.

Experience
Experience in the application of Project Management techniques in a relevant technical project environment.Experience in managing a portfolio of projects with competing demands and deadlines.Great financial management to ensure a high level of profitability on projects.Experience delivering solutions with a diverse team of both internal and external supply chain resources.Experience of working within the Defence and Security sector is highly desirable.Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of contract and commercial management.

Skills and attributes
Project Management expertise – especially in requirements capture, risk and financial management.Relationship management – building effective working relationships with key customers, internal stakeholders and suppliers where appropriate.Teamwork – must be a strong team player, offering support to colleagues at all levels of the business with a willingness to share skills and knowledge.Business acumen and consultative selling skills – seen by customer as a trusted advisor rather than sales person.Technical – a background in, or a general understanding of, mechanical, electrical, data and minor construction disciplines would be advantageous, but not essential.

Education and qualifications
A bachelor’s degree or equivalentMust possess (or be willing to gain) recognised project management qualifications or memberships i.e. Member of the Association of Project Managers (MAPM), APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) or PRINCE2/Project Management Institute (PMI) or equivalents.Must possess (or be willing to gain) a formal, appropriate Health and Safety Qualification. For example, the Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) qualification.Must possess (or be willing to gain) an adequate knowledge of Construction (Design and Management) 2015 Regulations.
